RIP Sevenfold's The Rev, Birthday Party's Howard, Vic Chesnutt

There were a spate of unseasonal deaths over the festive period.
Avenged Sevenfold drummer Jimmy ‘The Rev’ Sullivan passed away December 28 at his home in southern California at the age of 28.

The cause of his death has been ruled ‘inconclusive’ following an autopsy.

The local coroner’s office said more tests will have to be performed after an initial examination was carried out on December 29.

Police said there were no signs of foul play.

Singer/songwriter Vic Chesnutt died on Christmas Day after falling into a coma following an overdose of prescription drugs.

Chesnutt’s career took off when he was discovered by R.E.M. singer Michael Stipe, who produced his first two albums.

Chestnutt, who was 45, had been in a wheelchair since a car accident left him paralysed in 1983.

Rowland S. Howard, guitarist for The Birthday Party, died December 30 after struggling against liver cancer. He was 50.

Howard formed The Birthday Party in 1977 alongside singer Nick Cave, staying with the proto punk/art rockers until 1983. Howard then formed Crime & The City Solution.

Howard was waiting for a liver transplant and had cancelled recent shows due to illness.
