Replacements reunite for 3 shows
The Replacements have announced three reunion shows in August and September, 22 years after they split.
Frontman Paul Westerberg and bassist Tommy Stinson will appear at the Riot Fest events in Toronto on August 25, Chicago on September 15 and Denver on September 22. It’s not been confirmed whether drummer Chris Mars will return, nor who will play guitar.Front
The band’s appearances come after Westerberg and Stinson – the latter now with Guns n’Roses – recorded an EP to raise funds for axeman Slim Dunlap, who’d suffered a stroke last year and will never fully recover.
After the recording sessions Westerberg said of a reunion: “For the first ten minutes I thought, ‘Yeah, I’m ready!’ After a couple of hours it was like, ‘Man, you’ve got to be kidding.’ It’s possible – I’m closer to it now than I was two years ago.”
Dunlap replaced Stinson’s half-brother Bob, who left in 1988 and died of ill health related to drug abuse in 1995. The band’s last appearance on stage was at Chicago’s Grant Park in July 1991. They released seven albums following their formation in 1979.
