The Reason Axl Was Late At Reading? He Was Asleep!
Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose was busy napping when due on stage at both Reading and Leeds Festivals, according to a report in this morning’s Daily Star newspaper.
Axl sacked his entire tour crew after Guns’ Reading slot over-ran on Friday and landed him a whopping fine.
With his team under strict orders not to disturb him, it meant he eventually hit the stage an hour late. And disaster hit again on Sunday in Leeds when the plug was pulled early for a second time.
A source told the Daily Star: “Axl has a very firm rule that he is not to be woken up whenever he is asleep. That proved costly at Reading.”
The band started their Reading performance at 10.30pm and were allowed to play until midnight, 30 minutes past the agreed curfew. But after Nightrain, the band had the sound cut off. Despite this they attempted to start Paradise City, with Axl Rose using a megaphone, eventually telling the crowd that the band wouldn’t now be playing at Leeds two days later. However, Guns did play Leeds after all.
Backstage at Reading Axl kicked off. The Daily Star source continued: “Axl was furious. He refused to take responsibility and blamed his team so he sacked them.
“Then he realised it was too late to fly in anyone else from America so he had to rehire them for Leeds.”
But things went wrong again at Leeds.
Axl ranted on stage at 11.15pm: “We were guaranteed to play till 11.58 but they are telling us to end our set.
“The festival promoters just want to fuck you.
“We’re 35 miles from Leeds in a field in the middle of nowhere, who cares?”
According to Axl, Guns ‘had a deal’ to play longer than their allotted time during their Reading and Leeds headline slots.
Axl ranted on Twitter:
‘So you know, we allegedly had a deal in place pre show w/the city at least at Leeds to do a bit longer performance that was either miscommunication, someone wasn’t informed, changed their mind, didn’t care or was a con.’
