What a f**king knob! I used to be a huge fan and I think there were some great songs on Chinese Democracy, however there is no way that I would entertain the idea of going to see them these days. I can only assume that the people who are going to see G n R never got to see them first time around. However this incarnation has nothing in common with the origianal G n R, Stay at home people or spend your money on a band that deserves it.

They are playing Leeds Tommy Stinson confirmed it via his Tweeter.

And form what I’ve heard Axl was only 45 min late, and won the crowd over when almost 80k of them sang acoustic version of Paradise City
And it wasn’t Axl who fuc*** with audience and people who paid for tickets this time it was organisers as it was lame to cut them off 7-10 minutes before finish in the middle of the song.
It was funny that Axl and band took the stage anyway and stayed for some time anyway.

He gets booked because people buy tickets. The first O2 date sold out in minutes of going on general sale from what I hear. I think everyone realises it’s not the same GnR but perhaps people buying the tickets are interested in seeing the band that made Chinese Democracy. I’m pretty sure that people who have bought tickets to see the upcoming tour are fully aware of the undetermined wait they will have to endure to see Axl.

I can honestly say that while I’ve seen many bands, ranging from Maiden and Metallica to REM and Alice in Chains, this was the most enjoyable gig I’ve ever been to. Every note was hit by the man himself and the band played perfectly. People really need to get over themselves – if you go see Guns n Roses, or whatever you want to call it, and forget for 5 minutes all the prejudices you have against CD and the current lineup, you’ll have the time of your life, I guarantee it.
Also, WASP is right. It’s a bit of a moronic thing for Melvin Benn to do to book a band notorious for being late to shows, then act shocked when they are.

Hey, they did the same at Leeds in 2002. I was there. What a shame for the fans which were there this year. Typical for GnR.

I was standing on a muddy field,main stage, eating a portion of chips. everyone was booing and people were clearly fed up waiting and about half the crowd left before he even came on stage. !!

Finally he came. he didnt apologize for beign late, sound quality was crap and his voice was all over the place!! I was very dissapointed.

I feel sorry for the rest of the band who have to put up with Axl. You wouldnt believe how many times i heard people there say. ‘ He’s a f***** Dick’

Whenever I read stuff like this about Axl I thank god I was never a GnR fan. He’s the biggest ass on the face of the earth.

For anybody that wants to see GNR songs played live, then avoid GNR at all costs and instead, check out Slash when you can. He was excellent at Download, far superior to anything that knob Axl dishes up.

Great credit to the organisers, feel sorry for the fans, but to reflect an earlier comment, there are plenty of bands out there that deserve your support, they turn up on time, they actually care about the fans, instead of their own ego, and most importantly, the music is worth listening to. Give this pointless, bloated areshole the boot, he deserves nothing else.

I’ve been a fan since the beginning and have defended Axl many times but isn’t it about time he grew the fuck up? You can’t even semi-justify it by saying that it was a festival crowd and not their own, Mr Rose’s behaviour has long left him open to ridicule and he was obviously of the belief that he can do what he wants, when he wants, cos he’s Axl fuckin’ Rose, so well done to the council for standing up to him.
If he insists on continuing this ludicrous practice, which he’s done for years now, he may find his band not getting any bookings……not that the selfish arse gives a flying you-know-what.

This is pretty much exactly what I said would happen, which is very good for my ego. I see Axl now saying the audience deserve an apology from the audience, despite the fact that it was his fault and he was warned this would happen. Its your own doing Axl, show up on time and you’ll get to play a full set, stop blaming everyone other than yourself. Its you.

Most shocking is watching footage of it from YouTube, comments underneath seem to be coming down in favour of Axl (who looks alarmingly like the comedian Rufus Hound)…things like “So what? Its rock n roll, man.” Am I the only one who finds the idea that its OK to be a twat if you’re in a rock n roll band offensive? These are the people who THINK they’re rock n roll and go about their life like a walking cliche.

To me rock n roll is about bringing people together, not pissing people off. There’s no better feeling than being at one with thousands of people, and rock n roll (or music in general) is one of the few things that can do that.

Good. They were told in advance not to be late. At last someone is putting their foot down. I don’t give a shit who it is; if you agree to play at a set time, that’s the time you turn up and play. And if you need time to ‘contemplate’ before taking to the stage, to the extent that you run an hour over, then you can’t rise to the occasion.

I was at reading, I stood round waiting for about 5 minutes then went back to my tent. tbh, i thought 5 minutes was a long enough wait to see an aging has been with a bad attitude.

Saw GnR at Leeds Fest last night. I went in the evening only to see them and the excellent Queens of the Stone Age. They came on at 9.30 and played for 2hours. Ignore the Sweden Rock review in CR mag, the band were excellent. 7 tracks from Appetite, and 4 each from the Illusion & Chinese Democ albums.
Looking forward to October at Man Arena with Sebastian Bach opening.

So glad I got the chance to see them when it was the real GnR and were still up-and-comers in ‘88 supporting Iron Maiden. Why anyone would take a chance buying a ticket to see this version of the band now is beyond me.

I am a fan of GNR… But why am I not suprised about this…For many years Axl has turned up late to concerts/festivals, so what do people expect???

His previous history for letting down so many people speaks for itself , this over inflated ego dosen’t deserve an audience. The public pay good money to go to a gig / festival and this past his best singer has left them short changed again , because he won’t stick to the rules which everyone else has to abide by.

Axel’s covers band is at it again.

It’s a great shame because if he got his shit together, Axl could be a real force in rock music again. Although the album as a whole was a bit of a letdown, there were some decent tunes on ‘Chinese Democracy’. I thought Axl’s voice still sounded great on the record. I am in the minority of one here but I still think the original line-up might just get back together one day. Yes, there are too many egos involved for it to be a viable proposition but I feel there is also too many dead Washingtons also involved for it not to happen at some point. Apart, Axl and Slash have had steady if unexciting careers. Slash’s solo record is good but it just isn’t G N’R. They are a much stronger force together and I still think they could produce something special if the egos were left at the door!

tbh if I were GnR I wouldn’t have bothered playing such a middle of the road festival like Reading nowadays. It seems to me just a party ground for spoilt poser kids spending mummy and daddy’s £££, in danger of becoming the second least rock and roll festival after that other corporate branded pile of tosh called the V festival

I am going to see GNR in Belfast tonight and its the first gig I have ever gone to that I have worried about instead of looking forward to! I just hope that he catches himself on and that this gig will be the chance to redeem himself after the late starts and associated criticism. If you need to “contemplate” before going on start doing it earlier and get on stage at 9.00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally I love the fact that Axl is a loon. When every other rock star seems to be bringing out their own fashion collection or putting their name on wine, Axl is the last real Howard Hughes style fruit cake. I don’t want ‘normal’ rock stars that are ‘down to earth’ and are all pally with their fans. I want ones that drive over unliked demo tapes in their Ferrari and throw hissy fits because the venue provided Evian rather than fresh hand divined Himalayan spring water. So what if he is a bit of a dick with next to no grasp on reality? When Slash does yet another interview, does anyone care? Of course not, but when Axl does one it is a major event. He is the perfect antitheses of the X Factor and for that we should love him

GUNS ‘n ROSES PLAY COMPLETE GIG SHOCK!!!!Last night I attended GNR in Belfast with some misgivings (see post above). The support band announced their last song at 8.40 and then played another 3 songs, slightly worrying! Finally at 9.40 the lights went down but another 5 minutes passed until the band, much to everyones relief hit the stage – and played a blinding near two and half hour set including ALL the encores! Apart from the sound being a bit muddy here an there overall it was great. I had hoped they would redeem themselves and they certainly did.
Took Belfast to bring the best out in Axel & Co.This place has got to be one of the best cities in the world to play!

If I’d been working for Axl and he’d told me about his ‘don’t wake me up when I’m asleep rule’, I’d have waited for him to go to sleep and then kicked him right up his arse. That’s what my mother did when I tried enforcing a similar rule when I was Axl’s age (13).

Told you (see above) Belfast brought out the best in Axel…..even Dublin suffered!!
Must admit I am so happy to be able to say I saw the whole set in Belfast – the only full show played. Noted the mostly justified criticisms above but can say that if GNR had played all their gigs as they played Belfast most of you would have been happy with the new line up. DJ in particular was outstanding, can never replace Slash but he is great in his own right.

However would think twice if they return to Belfast as Axel promised unless he starts taking a nap earlier and gets on stage on time…it is pure courtesy to the fans.
