Ozzy: ‘I’m Going To Buy An Aston Martin!’ (Is This Wise?)
Road users beware! Ozzy Osbourne – who’s just passed his driving test – wants to buy a high-powered, James Bond-approved sports car.
Classic Rock’s Geoff Barton recently visited Ozzy in his hotel suite at London’s hyper-posh Dorchester hotel. (“I arrived early but by the time I got to Ozzy’s room I was late – you won’t believe how thick the Dorchester’s carpets are. You have to wade through them and they slow down your progress to a snail’s pace,” Barton remarked.)
During an interview to be published in a future edition of Classic Rock’s sister title Metal Hammer, Barton asked the Double-O:
You just passed your driving test – at the 19th attempt. Did you take lessons with the British School Of Motoring?
OO: “No [laughs], I took the test in America, not here. I’ve taken tests before but I haven’t been sober. They kept turning me away. I’d be walking around the test centre with a bottle of vodka in my pocket.”
If you passed your test in America, does that mean you can only drive a big, Detroit-built automatic?
OO: “No, I can drive an automatic, a stick shift, anything. I haven’t driven Sharon around yet but she says she won’t worry about getting in the car if I’m at the wheel. That’s true love for you. I don’t want to drive around the fucking world, but when you live in the hidden hills like I do, I just want to be able to drive down to the shops. That’s why I’m buying an Aston Martin, ha-ha! Not right now but when I get used to it a bit.”
What car did you learn to drive on?
OO: “I learned on a Rolls-Royce and I passed my test in a Range Rover.”
I passed my test in a Triumph Dolomite.
OO: “Fuck – when was that, 1936?!”
In further Ozzy news, the former Black Sabbath frontman said he was frightened he had contracted AIDS.
Talking to the Mirror newspaper, the Prince Of Darkness said:
“I went to the doctor and had an AIDS test. He told me it was positive. That was one of the worst days of my like.”
Thankfully, this turned out to be a mistake, with a second test coming back negative. Doctors claimed that the first result was due to the fact that Ozzy’s immune system had been hammered over the years, through his drinking and drug habits.
“It turned out that because I was drinking and using drugs so much, my immune system had dropped so that it was a borderline result. When I went back to be tested again it was negative.”
The singer’s new autobiography, I Am Ozzy, is on sale now.
