Reznor calls dying fan from stage
Nine Inch Nails mainman Trent Reznor stopped a show at the weekend in order to call a terminally-ill fan from the stage.
He halted proceedings at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas to dial photographer Andrew Youssef, who’s been documenting the final stages of his colon cancer battle in a weekly newspaper column entitled Last Shot.
Reznor told the crowd: “I want to have a Bono moment and try to FaceTime him,” referring to the U2 frontman’s stunt of calling world leaders during concerts in the 1990s.
Once connected with Youssef he said: “Listen, I just wanted to tell you that I miss you, man. I wish you were here.” In the background the crowd chanted his name.
The photographer is a massive fan of NIN and in one Last Shot article discussed how his hopes of seeing the band again was keeping his health strong.
The pair “met” on Twitter after Reznor heard of Youssef’s situation, and they met for lunch while NIN were in tour rehearsals.
The band come to the UK next year, with tickets on sale tomorrow at 9am:
May 18: Birmingham LG Arena
May 20: Glasgow Hydro Arena
May 21: Cardiff Motorpoint Arena
