Newsted Confirms He Will Perform With Metallica

Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted has confirmed that he will be performing with the band for the first time in nearly a decade when they are inducted to the Rock N’ Roll Hall Of Fame on April 4th.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, Newsted stated: “There’s three bass players getting inducted, and James, Lars and Kirk.”

Newsted went on to revel that it was sticks-man, Lars who made the “very recent” call, saying: “I talked to Lars, and it’s all good – I was happy to hear from him.”

“I hadn’t talked to him for a long time, so it was nice to hear his voice.”

As has been publicised, Dave Mustaine will not be included as he has never played on a Metallica record.

“Its not my decision.” Commented Newsted, “I have nothing to do with that.”

“It was decided by the band, and I think it was just a hard-and-fast rule… anyone who has recorded on any Metallica recordings that have been released to the public as an official release were invited to the induction. So, that’s kind of that.”

Metallica recently announced their new single will feature b-sides from recent UK shows, while it has also been announced that Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers will be inducting the band into the Rock N’ Roll hall Of Fame.

Sonisphere will take place on August 1st – 2nd at Knebworth. Metallica and Linkin Park will headline on a bill that will also feature Nine Inch Nails, Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold, Machine Head, Anthrax, Airbourne, Lamb Of God, Alice In Chains, Mastodon, Thin Lizzy, Killing Joke and The Sword.

Too bad Dave Mustaine isn’t invited. Could you imagine James, Lars, Kirk, Jason and Dave playing “Whiplash” or “The Four Horsemen” at the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame? With both James and Dave sharing lead vocals? Time for a reunion, me thinks.

A Flotsam and Jetsam reunion would be welcome too!
