Miami Residents Warned About Pete Townshend
A child abuse group (well, they’re anti-child abuse, but you know what we mean) has stepped up a campaign to have The Who banned from playing during the half-time break at America’s Super Bowl on February 7 in Miami.
This is all due to Who guitarist Pete Townshend being placed on a sex offenders’ register, after he accessed child pornography online.
The group, Protect Our Children, have had leaflets printed up and delivered them to people who live in the area of the Landshark Stadium, where the event happens. Posters have also been placed around the district. And the wording’s not exactly diplomatic. This is what it says on the leaflet and poster:
‘Townshend is a British citizen who was registered as a sex offender in his home country in 2003, for an offence related to child pornography. He will be at large in Miami on February when he arrives to perform at the Super Bowl with his musical group known as The Who. This is a community notification distributed in the interest of public safety.’
However, it seems very unlikely that The Who will be taken off the bill.
