Metallica Rock The Garden
Metallica were joined by Ozzy Osbourne, Ray Davies and Lou Reed as they got Madison Square Garden headbanging on October 30.
The band were on the bill for the 25th anniversary celebrations for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
Ozzy – introduced by James Hetfield as “the crazy guy who epitomises the rock ‘n’ roll singer” – teamed up with Metallica for the Black Sabbath classics Iron Man and Paranoid.
Lou Reed jumped on stage to help out with the Velvet Underground masterworks Sweet Jane and White Light/White Heat.
“We got completely schooled on early, early riff-rock by this man and his band, The Kinks,” said Hetfield, as Ray Davies came on for those timeless Kinks krackers You Really Got Me and All The Day And All Of The Night.
In all, Metallica did 11 songs, only three of which were their own songs. The full set list was:
- For Whom The Bell Tolls
- One
- Turn The Page
- Sweet Jane
- White Light/White Heat
- Iron Man
- Paranoid
- You Really Got Me
- All The Day And All Of The Night
- Stone Cold Crazy
- Enter Sandman
