Meanwhile, fellow Big 4 thrash outfit Megadeth have confirmed their long-expected split with Roadrunner Records. Mainman Dave Mustaine, who’s spent several years slamming the label’s “terrible” treatment of his band, said on Sunday: “Today marks the end of an era with Roadrunner. Hopefully we can finish strong with a Grammy.”
Anthrax are also nominated for the Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance award, alongside Iron Maiden, Halestorm, Lamb of God and Marilyn Manson. The New York band are nearing completion of their covers album, and drummer Charlie Benante tells Noisecreep: “It’s a record of covers from songs we grew up with – Boston, Journey, Thin Lizzy, Rush. You’re going to dig this, trust me.” They’ve also recorded a track for the upcoming Ronnie James Dio tribute album.
Slayer will headline the 2013 edition of the UK’s Bloodstock festival, with Anthrax lower on the bill. Tom Araya’s band are still without guitarist Jeff Hanneman, who nearly died from a poisonous spider bite in 2011 and is still recovering from its effects. His recuperation has forced delays in the recording of Slayer’s next album.
