Metallica officially have the biggest-selling album in America over the last 18 years.
The Black Album has sold just short of 15,500,000 copies since 1991, when the Nielsen Soundscan electronic system was introduced. This is the method used for compiling all sales figures in the States.
Not only that, but Metallica are the fourth biggest-selling artist in the USA over that period, having sold just a shade over 52 million albums. Only Mariah Carey, The Beatles and Garth Brooks are ahead of them.
At a considerably lower level, Radiohead sold more vinyl records that anyone else in America during 2009, weighing in with a ‘mighty’ 45,700 copies.

Interesting and welcoming(home:) ) fact but at the same time certainly doesnt mean its anywhere near their best!!!It probably nestles in the same record collections by those who bought Rock City Nights compilations etc.For me Kill Em All,Ride The Lighting(my own personal fave) and Master Of Puppets cant be touched!!!!Energy, great songs, great playing and the obvious development of the band. From the 80’s,the only debut album and subsequent follow ups that were anywhere near them,is Iron Maiden,Killers and Number of the Beast.Creeping Death best metal song ever folks?????!!!!!!!
Can’t believe it’s 18 years since Metallica’s black album. If you didn’t own that album you were not in scene. It’s still great.
