Metallica have revealed that all fans who pre-order Quebec Magnetic by midnight tonight (November 22) will receive an exclusive shirt when their live DVD is delivered.

And all purchases will include entry into a prize draw to win £1000 to spend in the Metallica store.

Quebec Magnetic was shot over two nights during the band’s Death Magnetic tour, and features three tracks previously unreleased in live format: The End Of The Line, My Apocalypse and The Judas Kiss.

The double-disc set, with setlist chosen by 35,000 fans who voted in an online poll. It’s due out on December 10.

Metallica frontman James Hetfield and bassist Robert Trujillo appear as playable characters in upcoming game pack for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD, released on December 4. The band have added neckties to their range of merchandise.

Meanwhile, former bassist Jason Newsted – who earlier this week announced a full return to his music career – has admitted he regrets the years he spent headbanging on stage with the band.

Like fellow thrash giants Tom Araya of Slayer and Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, Newsted has had to undergo surgery a number of times to deal with damaged vertebrae after years of energetic stage performances.

He tells Eddie Trunk via Blabbermouth: “If you look at those videos, like any of the live videos and stuff, oh my God — there’s no wonder that it’s the way it is.

“There’s definitely some serious degeneration that’s taken place in my vertebrae. I’ve had three shoulder surgeries and I’ve been in rehab for many, many years trying to get everything back together.”

But he adds: “I’m a lot better than I was for the last six or seven years. I’ve always retained my same fighting weight; I’ve kept myself fit. I’m pretty close to the monster, and I think if I work on it a little bit, I can be the monster again.”
