Newsted knocked off stage by fan
Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted was knocked off stage during a solo band show in New York on Tuesday – and he’s admitted it was a first-time experience for him.
He was performing with Newsted when a fan jumped up, apparently with the intention of stage-diving. Instead he bumped into the musician and the pair tumbled into the security area.
A video clip shot from the crowd shows the audience member being removed by two security personnel.
Metal Insider reports Newsted climbed back onto the stage and told the crowd: “You know, no matter how many shows I’ve done, that just happened for the first time. I trust my brothers here to take care of it. Anyone get a good look at that motherfucker? Don’t kill him – just bruise him up a bit.”
He appeared to have escaped injury in the incident – but he’d only returned to full-time music last year after finally dealing with shoulder and back problems connected to years of physical performance.
Meanwhile, Metallica have released a trailer for upcoming movie Through The Never. View it below.
Drummer Lars Ulrich tells the Hollywood Reporter that the plot revolves round a crew member – and it takes place in a “parallel universe.”
“He’s sent out on a mission during Metallica’s roaring live set in front of a sold-out arena,” says Ulrich. “While on this mission he unexpectedly has his life turned completely upside down.
“The primary thing we wanted to accomplish with the concert part of it is that we never felt that, at least in hard rock, anybody ever captured what it’s like up on stage, amongst it, being sweated on, spit on and in the thick of it.”
