Mary J. Blige Covers Zep Classic – Be Afraid!
Mary J. Blige has teamed up with Steve Vai to record a version of Stairway To Heaven – and we are not joking.
The r&b star has also brought in Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, bassist Randy Jackson (who was once in Journey, and is now an American Idol judge) and Michael Jackson’s one-time touring guitarist Orianthi.
Blige (Surely that should be Bilge? – Ed.) told Spinner:
“I think this song is not hard at all because it’s based on pure emotion… and once you get lost in the rock’n'roll moment of it, all you can do is scream to the top of your lungs or go as low as you need to go… it’s a spirit thing.” Right.
Stairway… is expected to turn up as a bonus track on Blige’s re-issue of her album Stronger With Each Tear.
She also wants to due on another song with Robert Plant. Before you know it, she’ll be offering her services to Aerosmith!
About as big a fail as when Hitler’s parents felt aroused. “I think this song is not that hard at all”. How about “I don’t think that hard at all”.

Never heard of her but going by that photo I wouldn’t want to be in the same room as “her” let alone record. That is one scary looking beast.

This cover totally works and Orianthi totally rocks. I think Mary J. Blige’s voice is what Robert Plant was attempting to do anyway and Orainthi looks WAY better than any 80’s hair band guitar-god-wanna-be did (probably because she actually IS a girl) and she can shred with soul the way Page does! Barker is an animal like Bonham too. Randy Jackson shows his stuff beyond the American Idol persona. It’s all really something!
This cover totally works! Orianthi can shred with soul like Page and looks better than any 80’s guitar-god-wanna-be ever did to boot (probably because she actually IS a female). Randy Jackson’s good humour and talent go beyond the American Idol chit chat and we get to see his talent and Mary J. Blige sounds WAY better than Robert Plant could ever dream of. Wow. What an achievement.
