Malcolm McLaren, RIP
Malcolm McLaren, one of the great entrepreneurs of the music business, has died at the age of 64 in Switzerland.
McLaren, who was diagnosed with mesothelioma (a rare form of cancer) last October, will always be remembered for the brilliant and groundbreaking way he managed The Sex Pistols, and is rightly regarded as one of the true godfathers of the punk movement.
A charismatic, if controversial, figure he also managed The New York Dolls and Bow Wow Wow, among others.
An art school graduate, McLaren set up the fashion shop Let It Rock in West London with designer Vivienne Westwood, specialising in rubber and fetish wear, This later became Sex, and helped to define punk fashion.
Commenting on McLaren’s death, John Lydon said:
“For me, Malc was always entertaining, and I hope you remember that. Above all else, he was an entertainer. I will miss him and so should you”.

Malcom’s real name was Malcolm Edwards, he was a classmate of mine at Orange Hill Grammar School
at Burnt Oak, Edgware.
