Machine Head Guitarist Collapses On Stage (Again)
Machine Head guitarist Phil Demmel is recovering after collapsing on stage during the band’s performance at the Sonisphere festival in Pori, Finland.
Although he had to be helped off stage, Demmel told the Sonisphere organisers that he is now feeling okay.
“Basically I want to apologies to all the fans for cheating them of their last song,” he said. “I feel I short-changed the fans and really want to make it up for them. Thanks for all the concern.”
This is not the first time Demmel, who suffers from a rare condition called cardiogenic syncope, has collapsed on stage.
Essentially the condition means on occasion that the heart fails to pump enough blood to the brain, resulting in the sufferer blacking out. In fact, Demmel collapsed on stage in Sheffield in December 2008.
Demmel has plenty of time to recover this time around, because Machine Head pulled out of the UK leg of this coming weekend’s Sonisphere festival following an argument over billing. Their place has been taken by Saxon.
