Lou Reed Gets Noisy On UK Tour
Lou Reed is to use his controversial 1975 album Metal Machine Music as the basis for his spring UK dates.
The tour is being dubbed A Night Of Deep Noise – and there will be no vocals or songs in the set. Instead, Reed and his band will play an array of instruments – stringed and electronic – and explore free-form jazz, avant-garde rock, noise and ambience.
It’s strange that Reed is choosing to revisit his Metal Machine Music period as it’s popularly believed the original album was just a piss-take, recorded to fulfil contractual obligations.
To compound the agony, in the album’s sleeve-notes Reed claimed to have invented heavy metal music and trumpeted that Metal Machine Music was the ultimate conclusion of that genre. Yeah, right.
Anyhow, Reed’s dates are as follows:
April 17: Cambridge Junction
April 18: Oxford O2 Academy
April 19: London Royal Festival Hall
