Lita Ford Launches Her Own Comic Book
Lita Ford and her family are coming to a comic store near you in November.
They star in a comic called The Gillettes: Family Business. The storyline sees the ex-Runaways guitarist, husband Jim Gillette and sons James (12 years old) and Rocco (eight) having to overcome zombies and an ancient Chinese curse, in order to make it to a Hallowe’en gig.
“We always wanted to do a comic book,” says Lita, “and this was a great family project. We include the kids in everything we do. They sing The Pledge Of Allegiance on my new album, Wicked Wonderland, and we bring them on the road, where they often jump on stage and throw metal horns or squirt water guns at the crowd. To include them in a project like this was exciting for the whole family.”
The comic’s writer is also something of a prodigy. He’s 14-year-old Jake Tinsley, who attracted attention with his Night Owl series of comics. The 24-page comic book, with Manga-style artwork from Jason Dube, will be available through a joint venture between JLRG Entertainment (run by the Gillettes) and Tinsley’s Wham Bang Comics.
Comics aficionados will know this isn’t the first time. In 1993 Lita featured in a Runaways special together with Joan Jett on the cover. The following year Malibu Comics, using their Rock-It imprint, released an official Lita book, intended to be the first in an ongoing series.
