Kiss On New Album: “No Ballads, No Slow Songs, No Filler”
Kiss drummer Eric Singer has offered an in-depth update on the new Kiss record!
In a statement on the band’s official website, Singer has said:
“You wanted the best?”
“Well, the wait is almost over…”
“I have been hearing Kiss fans say for a longtime that ‘All’s we want is NEW KISS music’… Well, sometimes wishes do come true!”
“Last December, Paul [Stanley, guitar/vocals] called me up saying he wanted to make a new Kiss record. He seemed very keen and was very specific about the approach to our latest endeavors. He basically said he wanted us to make a Kiss record and music in the purest sense. Meaning no outside writers, the BAND plays on everything, and we use vintage equipment.”
“Guess what? The end result is everything I could have hoped for.”
“I have to say this has been the most fun and pleasure making a record I have ever been involved in. The chemistry and overall vibe really made for such a great atmosphere and the playing, sounds and songs just really capture what Kiss is all about. Classic rock & roll.”
“As we were working up song ideas, everyone was very in tune and conscious of our goals at all times. Gene (Simmons, bass/vocals) and Paul would retrace their steps from the past and focused on paying tribute to their roots of the early styles of classic Kiss by paying close attention to the way they sang and the sounds of the instruments.”
“The camaraderie between everyone and especially Gene and Paul really made it easy for all to bring the best out of each other.”
“Paul took the reigns and headed up the project like the leader that he has been for over 35 years but, this time with a renewed, inspired and very patient style (he is a great dad after all). He really knew what he wanted from each of us individually and collectively.”
“We did the 11 new songs in small batches by getting into a rehearsal studio first to work up ideas. We then would move to the recording studio. The recordings would entail all of us playing ‘live’ together in the room. As we captured each performance, we would then add extra guitar parts and usually put a guide vocal on the track so we could live with it for a few days and make sure the tempos and vibe was right.”
“By the way, we used NO click tracks on this record I am proud to say. We really went for capturing the live feel and essence of each song. And, Paul, Gene, Tommy (Thayer, guitar) and myself are the only musicians playing these songs. A true band effort and performance!”
“As for the songs? Well, no ballads, no slow songs, no filler… The band really has come full circle. Just pure straight-ahead rock and roll that has all the elements that made you love Kiss from day one. Everyone sings lead on a song (Tommy and myself) and even trade off vocal lines and parts throughout the record.”
“Believe me, the wait IS over and well worth it!”
“I hope you all enjoy listening to it as much as we did making it…”
The new as-yet untitled album from Kiss is expected to surface before the end of 2009.

just what the world needs – a new KI$$ record
Just pure shite.
jon armour – if you don’t have anything nice to say then shut the hell up!
Can’t wait for this record. Hope it’s as good as they’re making out to be!
Have you heard music in the last 20 years there Jon?What’s this gonna hurt? Can’t be any worse than that shit G’N'R dropped or that AC-DC waste of time could it?
“just what the world needs – a new KI$$ record”
Probably said by a div who doesn’t even own a single KISS record and has never seen them play live.
I’m looking forward to hearing what they have to offer. If it’s shit I’ll be the first to say so but let’s not judge it until we actually hear the songs.
Looking forward to hearing Ace’s new album as well.
I can’t wait! Another chapter in KISSTORY will be written this year, although wether it’ll better Chickenfoot (currently my album of the year) we’ll have to see…
RE: Todd – “AC/DC waste of time”. Eh? Black Ice was a cracking album – exactly what you would would want form AC/DC in 2008. Rock n’ Roll Train’s gotta be their best song since Thunderstruck!
I’m also looking forward to Ace’s solo effort – if it has just half the swagger of his original ‘78 solo record it’ll be a triumph. Also, any word on ZZ top’s collaboration with Rick Rubin? That’s gotta be promising…
I’m looking forward to it but Eric talks as if the band playing all the instruments is some kind of special achievement. Call me old fashioned.
I think a huge gap between albums can be quite a good thing. Last year proved the point with AC/DC and Uriah Heep releasing absolute crackers after a long lay off. Heep’s in particular was my album of the year (much better than that thing by The David Coverdale Band that won the CR awards). So yeah, it’s going to be interesting to hear some new stuff from Kiss, especially if it lives up to the hype. My only concern is going to be the admission price when they tour it.
I’m looking forward to it. I hope they come back and play the UK soon too.
Jon and smider… if you hate KISS so much, why click on this link and bother to comment at all… dont you both have other things to do??? probably not I guess.. Anyway, few bands can say they;ve been around for over 35 years and achieved the status and success that KISS have. As if the band or its fans give a shit about your opinions.
Me… I cant wait, its gonna rock….
Back to your nickleback CD’s loozers!
Before they release it, they should play it to Bob Ezrin to get his opinion. I’m hoping the new album will kick a- in the ‘Creatures’/Revenge’ style and not be so-so like ‘Psycho Circus’! Don’t let us down Kiss!
I can’t wait for the album after reading this. When KISS was Gene, Ace, Paul, and Peter they were the best rock and roll band on earth. If this album has “no ballads, slow songs, or filler” like Eric says then it should be a good ole fashioned rock ‘n’ roll album can’t wait to see if it’s true.
