Kiss Challenge Stones, U2
/ News / 11/03/2010 12:15pm
Gene Simmons has thrown down the gauntlet to The Rolling Stones and U2 to compete with Kiss as the (admittedly self-proclaimed) hottest band in the land.
Talking to XFM, Simmons said: “I would love to play on the same stage as U2, the Stones and anybody out there who considers themselves a world champion. You come on up on that stage with us, baby. Show me what you got, and then we’ll show you what the big boys do.”
This is perhaps the greatest piece of rock band duelling since Twisted Sister threatened Manowar and Hanoi Rocks with a punch-up in London’s Covent Garden nearly 30 years ago! You can read all about that right here.

Gene Simmons is a douche.
Notice Simmons didn’t mention taking on the biggest grossing act of the year – AC/DC……no balls that man.
pft keith would wipe the lot of em
stones all the way
Gene Simmons – captain of comedy rock strikes again
Having seen them all live, I can confirm that Mr Simmons & his mates would have no problems banishing U2 – I’d personally pay alot of money to see KISS blow that Bono cock off the stage. I’d then like to see his carcas ripped apart by Eric “The Cat” Singer, his blood drunk & spewed by the Demon and his head blasted into space by Tommy “The Spaceman” Thayer. Paul’s a lover not a fighter so he can just stand and watch. Simmons however may have his hands full with the Stones, who I still consider the greatest. I also feel he may have to lay down for AC/DC tho it would be a close call.
Hmm…how many members of the Stone wear ridiculous wigs? None. How many wear garish make-up? None. Both Gene and paul really need better wigs. Especially Gene, his looks like my granny’s and she been dead a decade.
I think the Stones really on songs and talent, something Gene wouldn’t know about.
Yeah, tell it like it is Gene!
I think KISS can crush U2 AND the Stones like cockroaches. Check The Stones current live shows and notice the lack of guts and spunk, elements that KISS have somehow maintained. I guess it’s part of their philosophy to give the fans the best show they deserve instead of the lame excuse for a rockshow The Stones obligatorily put down. As for U2, well, maybe it’s an unfortunate competition cuz they do everything but Rock.
I don’t know about you, but the less spunk i see at gigs, the better
They are only the hottest coz Led Zep and Pink Floyd are finished. But I’d say KISS are a better live band than the Stones, and easily U2 (which wouldn’t be difficult). but better than Rush? Oh and Gordon Pomeroy – Mick Jagger worse more make up in the 70s than all members of KISS put together!
knob.
AC/DC would still wipe these clowns of the stage,
I love Kiss and they put of a great show, but all of these guys (ACDC included) that play the same show night after night bore me after a while. FFS, even a pub band mix up their setlist.
So step aside guys for Bruce and the E Street Band…the only band I know that will take requests from an arena sized audience.
The true champions when it comes to live rock and roll.
I’d listen to the interview in full guys before you make a decision. It’s typical lazy journalism by CR, misquoting part of an interview. Gene is quite gracious to a lot of bands in the interview, especially English bands (which it’s quite obvious he loves)
Wot a wanker of a comment…the guy is obviously after some press!!…Come Keefy wipe the floor with them
I love Kiss but,
hahaha what an idiot!
”Notice Simmons didn’t mention taking on the biggest grossing act of the year – AC/DC……no balls that man.”
Couldnt agree more…………
Higgo’s spot on. Bruce Springsteen is the best live act of them all. In 2010 and at 60 years of age Springsteen is the best I’ve ever seen. No real stage show, no pyro’s, just pure showmanship & music for over 3 hours at a time. Unbelievable.
The Stones, AC/DC & Kiss come in respective 2nd, 3rd & 4th places for me.
I remember Joe Elliot saying that if you’re in a band, it’s ok to think you’re the best band in the world, because it shows you’re passionate about your art and so into it that you make it as good as it can be within the confines and limits of your own creativity. I felt it a very good point and have changed my take on bands with ego ever since.
I think people are missing out on this fact.
On the other hand, the Stones don’t really throw their weight around, in terms of ego. I don’t think they ever claim to be anyone special. Who does? Motley Crue, Ozzy Osbourne (when he talks about his Black Sabbath days), plenty of bands. Kiss were just naming the biggest two.
Kiss have set-lists, but do vary them a bit FYI. Just find the list of all songs they played in the first two make-up comeback tours, definitely some experimentation with the set-lists. They also played quite a different set-list in ‘03 but it wasn’t that popular. Strangely, on that tour, and Paul Stanley’s solo one, tons of material from the album no one likes (even Bruce Kulick), Hot In The Shade got snuck in. Always found that odd.
R U people nuts, KISS is just AWESOME. U2 and the Rolling Stones are no competition for the Kings of Rock. ACDC puts on a show but vocal wise, c’mon ACDC isn’t sounding so great. Pink Floyd, u might have something but the show goes with the music. KISs has earned the right to to do what they want where they want and how they want because they r the GREATEST ROCK BAND IN THE UNIVERSE.
