Journey Song To Be Ruined By X Factor Numpty
X Factor guru Simon Cowell is set to pick Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’ as the song the eventual winner of the show will release as his – or her – debut single.
This, apparently, signals that Cowell believes someone called Joe McElderry will triumph in the final of the ITV show.
We understand McElderry performed Don’t Stop Believin’ in a previous round, during the X Factor’s so-called ‘Rock Week’. It was an utterly hopeless attempt to emulate Steve Perry’s original vocals, or so we hear.
According to The Sun newspaper, an X Factor source said:
“It is getting to the crucial stages now and Simon and the producers are very confident that Joe could be the winner. He made a great fist of Don’t Stop Believin’ and that has halped.
“It’s always a difficult call choosing the song, especially as there are some very different talents in the final line-up.”
Insiders said there were still legal issues to be ironed out concerning the use of Don’t Stop Believin’, which is owned by Columbia Records.
We know the X Factor is full of Journey-man singers, but this is ridiculous. Register your complaints now!

yeah I saw that it was a crap rendition of it , dropped down a few keys and its just not right that this is allowed to happen, someone please do something to stop this great song becoming a gay anthem,

Seeing as Simon Cowell is so confident in his abilities, perhaps he should write his own song for this sort of thing. That way at least it would be ruined before it began.
We’ve all got our views about this glorified karaoke contest but if it makes Journey a few quid or introduces some people to their music then surely thats a good thing.
I shouldn’t even dignify this with a response. but anyways – at least it shows just how shallow this whole opeartion is. if they were looking for artists – they’d be releasing someone with their own song. instead, they go for a song which is a HUGHE hit already (isn’t it the most downloaded song in the history of itunes?) – and that people know and love which makes it very accessible. the wave will ride until the next season when someone else releases a karaoke version of a song that’s already a hit.
wouldn’t it be great if Neil Schon said to cowell; “F** off. I don’t need the money. try and and find real talent”
What is about rock fans? We are so narrow minded when it comes to others outside the realms of rock/metal covering a rock song. I’m with Lyn, if it makes Journey so extra dough and makes some of the X Factor fans check out Journey then that’s a good thing.
Get Steve Perry on and he’ll show ‘em how to sing the high notes
Maybe it will see the same response as last year when that girl crucified Jeff Buckley and all the Journey fans rally round and get the original back in the charts !
Lyn, I don’t think Journey needs a few more quids the were the 17th most most profitable tour in 2008 with about 45 millions US$. But I agree it might bring some people to be interested by the original which is still the most downloaded song ever on Itune.
Will Simon bring Steve Perry to congratulate the winner ? THAT would be reaaaaallt something.
Sorry not impressed with this, one of my fav bands of all time being butchered like this, has anyone also heard the Glee version, that was also released recently, now that is vomit central. It actually makes we want to cry and put a flaming dog shit on the doortstep of the creators of Autotune!!

I appreciate your point Lyn, but I just can’t be happy with this. I’m gutted.
Write the winner a NEW song you flat topped cunt!!!!!!!
Journey the Abba of Rock! That is actually a compliment too….Great songs, great musicians and great performers.
If it gets Journey noticed in the UK who cares – all rock fans know the original and it won’t matter if someone else murders it the original will still be the best.
If it is a massive success what price more covers of Journey material – Westlife doing Faithfully…..? Actually that doesn’t bare thinking about does it?
Dugnet clearly doesn’t remember the dogs’ dinner that was Mariah Carey’s soulless version of Open Arms.
There’s no point introducing Journey to the people who watch X-Factor – they won’t care who did the original. They just want an easy-on-the-ear fix and then move on to the next series, while reading who the winner is shagging, in Heat magazine. Introducing them to Journey is like giving sirloin steak to a stray cat.
The one exception to the stream of dross presented by the Pop-X-Idol-Factor branding has been Chris Daughtry, who reached the final stages of American Idol a few years back. He’s since produced 2 great albums of original songs – one of which has just been covered very badly by Westlife. Irony?
I don’t watch the X-Factor, but when I heard about the Rock Week a little part of my soul died.
I’m not the biggest fan of Journey, but this is just an example of everything good and original in music being bastardised and ruined.
And for a throwaway pop artist covering/ruining a class, well would you expect anything less from this f**king joke of a show? The X-Factor is the complete embodiment of all that is wrong with the music industry.
Have a nice day.
get cronos on the show and they could cover a venom classic on black metal night…hmmm you really made that version of witching hour your own son.
Last year, Jeff Buckley shot up the charts on the back of the dreadful X-factor cover. Let’s hope Journey does the same, only this time let’s make the original #1 for Xmas!!!!
They Is gonna rave/Distroy it
It was good to see Sting have a pop at X Fuckter the other week, quite a few big stars are coming down on it, hope more will follow.
I agree with Psy, I sincerely doubt the majority of people watching that show will give a rats arse about Journey or any great old rock band. These talent shows are never about the music just the marketing, let’s hope it follows Big Brother soon, yet I fear we may have other copycat shows for sometime to come.
Couple of things on this…
Do Jouney NEED more money – probably not but would you turn down more cash? So why expect Schon &co to do it?
Will it give journey the exposure to get back in the singles charts with new material? Probably not
Will it help them sell more tickets at gigs in the UK? Possibly but they’ve done pretty well – I think their last couple of tours sold out?
Will it get younger people into great music – possibly but nowadays younger people buy tracks they don’t really buy albums so just because they’ve heard Don’t Stop Believin doesn’t mean they will be inclined to explore any further – at least before you’dve had to buy the entire Escape album
X-Factor has its merits as a Tv show, but finding a genuine musical talent is not really what it does.
The song the winners get given are chosen as potential Xmas No.1’s – its got nothing to do with what genre they might operate in
“He made a great fist of it..” The only fist involved should be every music loving person’s into Simon Cowell’s smug face. On repeat, till we’ve all had a go.
We have X Factor in Denmark too (not that I’m proud of it). Of cause they had to ruin quite a few good songs or more – and nobody cared about who was the original artist. Journey, Queen, Elvis – who cares?
One of the winners (there has sadly been several seasons) was this teenage boy whom I doubt even knew who Queen was – but apparently he sang one of their songs. Freddie would have cried I’m sure. Not of joy.
Martin released one album; a combination of covers and a few originals. Aimed at the billboards. Easy money for the record company (and in this case; the producer). One album! And now? Now he has no record deal and people has moved on to the next “X Factor Wonder” (who hasn’t got any musical talent what so ever either).
No, I don’t think that a X Factor winner singing a Journey song will give Journey a whole lot of attention. People doesn’t give a damn. They want entertainment. Now.
If I was a huge Journey fan I would make absolutely sure not to turn on the telly the night it is broadcasted. It is just too sad.
[...] As previously reported on the Classic Rock website, Don’t Stop Believing was strongly rumoured to … [...]
Anyone that sings old journey or foreigner songs for profit needs shooting at close range!!!
In the series Joe took on “Don’t Stop Believing” and failed, and it’s the ONLY time he’s failed all series. the only time he didn’t take his material to “remarkable”. Steve Perry/Arnel Pineda he ain’t, but he does have a beautiful voice and is eminently marketable. Point is , in the Final, he did “Don’t Stop Believing” again, aND he nailed it. It a was a bit of a cut and paste of the format of the song, but nonetheless, beautiful vocal. I watch X Factor, I am a Journey fan since Escape.
