John Norum: I Nearly Recorded With Dio
Europe guitarist John Norum has exclusively told Classic Rock of plans he had to record with the late Ronnie James Dio.
“I met Ronnie only recently, and he told me of a song he’d written that he was keen to have me play guitar on. We never got beyond talking about the idea, but it was a serious plan.”
Like everyone else in world of rock and metal, Norum was shocked by Dio’s death on May 16, from cancer.
“Ronnie was one of those great characters whom you thought would go on until he was 100. It seems very strange to think that we will no longer see him onstage, or hear any new songs. His death has left a huge gap that nobody else can hope to fill.”
Norum is to release a new solo album, Play Yard Blues, through Mascot on July 17. We’ll have more on that – and also what he really thinks of The Final Countdown! – soon.

John Norum is someone who would have worked well with RJD. I wish Michael Schenker had recorded with Ronnie too.
That is something I always thought would have been brilliant – Ronnie and Michael would have been an ideal pairing, shame we will never know now.
