Joe Elliott: No Leppard Split

mdome / News / 30/06/2010 07:01am

Joe Elliott insists that his commitment to the Down ‘N’ Outz doesn’t mean the end of Def Leppard. Nor will it lead to the Quireboys (who have four members in this band).“I see Down ‘N’ Outz recording a minimum of four albums,” he told Classic Rock. “(But) neither of our bands are splitting up. The Quireboys are cheating on (vocalist) Spike), and I’m cheating on four guys (in Leppard), though our partners all know about it.”

Read the full story on the Down ‘N’ Outz in Issue 147 of Classic Rock – out right now. This includes a free copy of the debut Down ‘N’ Outz album, My ReGeneration.

That’s a real pity because Def Leppard are absolutely dire! Let’s face it they haven’t produced anything even vaguely Rock-like since the early eighties. They’re now some kind of weird soft rock/ r’n'b hybrid that is utterly devoid of ideas. Dull, dull, dull!
I just say it like it is fellas.

The real crime would be if The Quireboys suffered because of it. A proper touring rock band.

I wouldn’t fret though as the Down N Outz freebie was a bit lacklustre IMHO.

Joe needs to remodel Def Leppard and bring out a strong heavy rock album.. or call it a day on the band.

I would really consider sacking both Daft Leppard and Quireboys off if I was these guys. For one Joe Elliotts voice sounds great on the down n outs album with only the occasional hint of the over produced reverbed soaked vox effects that he uses in his pop band. Plus all the musicians also sound on top of their game, without the paupers version of rod stewart standing all over their shoes. I know its essentially a covers band using a great template, but the tunes and band sound fresh. I think they’ve got the potential to carry this on full time.

Having been a Lep fan since time began, i must say their last few albums have sounded dated & time fillers! Come on lads get in modern times get rid of 80`s sound & produce a quality HARD ROCK ALBUM!

The Down ‘N’ Outs free cd really surprised me. I thought the musicianship was really good, the production is good and Joe sings really well (dare I say better than in Def Lep). One of the best freebies classic rock has ever done. 100 times better than Joe Perry’s – who would have thought thought that?

having seen leppard 3times in last 5 years dont tell me they dont rock i mean why do so many people go and watch the stones they havent done a decent album since?????well years and years but people flood to watch them cause they ROCK yea would love a real hard album from leps but their back cataloge is good enough .

i agree with some of comments, the last cd sparkle lounge is awful even x was better, think its been on twice.Nothing brilliant since adrenalize

Who cares if they split.
I was a massive fan from 79 to about 92. All they are doing is living off the glory of 2 albums. Their setlist is the same all of the time.

The band is practically finished, and they know it.

So Def Leppard are ‘dire’ are they?

So Spike is a ‘paupers version of Rod Stewart’ is he?

I hate to say this but this reminds me of the legions of bedroom guitarists who spent the late 90’s/ early 00’s slagging off or even ‘laughing at’ Oasis (whilst getting ready for some shitty little pub gig, probably)- could there be a hint of jealousy there?

Spike, Joe Elliott (and Oasis) do this for real so you don’t have to- and however begrudgingly you should really respect them for that.

Stick to reading magazines- NME or Mojo will probably suit you fine.

I think the Down n’ Outz freebie is fantastic. I’m a fan of Leppard, the Quireboys & Mott ! It would be good if the Down’z were to do some more uk gigs. Perhaps a co-headline with another act of medium sized venues such as Leeds Academy or Manchester Apollo would be good.

The Down N Outz cd, was a real suprise, my hubby and I are long time Mott and British Lions fans, and we both think Joe and the gang have done a fantastic job, will buy the full CD when out.

It’s not jealousy it is just that the Down n’ Outz are not very good, Def Leppard are past it, and the ‘Joe Elliott: Def Leppard No Split’ story in Classic Rock is just another attempt by Joe Elliott to keep his 4th rate covers band in the news and help justify the too high billing that Down n Outz have got at the High Voltage Festival. The cd is crap too, why anybody would want to buy an extended version of such dross is beyond me.

Very lame indeed.

I don’t understand some of the comments, I bet most of the poster have a Lepp CD in their collection, and would know the lyrics / melody for most of their songs. Lepp are a great band, we all know their history…so no need to repeat it.

I liked the Sparkle Lounge, it was way better than X, more rocky tunes, and their next one; according to the band will be a rough produced rock album.

This new installment (from Joe) was very refreshing, the guitars, drums and vocals were all great, its a well produced album, even of you’re not a fan of Mott’s music. I’ve had it for 4 days now and I’m listening to it none stop. Great tunes indeed.

I think once Lepp gets mentioned people like to have a go at them…

For me, this is the best Freebie ClassicRock has given out…thanks a million!!!

haywire

I’ve seen Def Lepp numerous times (home and abroad) over the last few years and they didn’t disappoint once. Compared to some of the dross I’ve seen recently (HIM at Download a few weeks ago comes to mind) they are far better.

The reason they are still going strong and playing major festivals umpteen years after they formed is because they are actually quite good at what they do. If you don’t like them, don’t buy their cds or go and see them live. Nobody’s forcing you to.

we need the likes of joe elliot doing a great job upholding british rock. screw you wankers who always criticise the band that saved british rock from pop hell in the 80’s. these guys work hard to release new stuff and come out on tour all over the world to entertain, you think you can do better……..

monkeyman daz kev glad wont be seeing your faces at the next LEPPARD tour see the finger feel the finger !

Hey Guys lets not argue and bitch about one of the greatest British rock bands that have blessed our ears and rocked the worlds stages for so many years, and still fill stadiums. These boys know what it’s all about, and they are the best band on this planet in there genre.I think we should all be on the same page, and thats why we are on this site!Don’t we all love Classic Rock?Cheers.

I have just listenned to the new Down’n'Outz CD.
Its just more of Joe Elliots self indulgent claptrap. If I want to listen to Mott the Hoople then I will, not this twaddle. MTH have always been one of my all time favourite bands and there is no need for this. And Lordy we’ve got 3 more to come!!

Jonathan

Leppard have been in a rut since Hysteria

Steve Marinaro

OOOOOOh handbags at ten paces!

Can’t understand the point in posting stuff like “sh!t since …..” why even take the effort to post?

Yeah Leppard disappeared up their own *rse after Hysteria but they know that now. The cd’s a bit of fun like it was supposed to be, this is not Def Leppard it’s the Down & Outs.

See Leppard on tour next time if you have the cash handy – don’t think I’ve seen anything to beat ‘Rocket’ played live yet. Absolutely brilliant.

Virginia Gutierrez

I first would like to say to the people who are dissing both bands, grow up! I myself have been a Leppard fan since my diaper years and they have never disappointment me. I gave a recent listening to Down N Outz and thought it was brilliant.I love the collaboration Joe did with the guy’s. Joe is proof no matter how old you are,you can still rock. To those who wanna talk trash, let’s see you get on stage in front of millions and sing for 32 years.

down n outz with joe elliott is excellent all the songs on this disc are brilliant so all you negative people out there listen too it a few times and you wiil appriciate fine tunes
