Jimi Hendrix biopic to star rapper
A biopic telling the story of Jimi Hendrix’s rise to fame is set to start shooting in Ireland this month, starring Outkast rapper Andre 3000.
A report by the Irish Film & Television Network says the movie will be called All is By My Side. It will document the guitar icon’s move to England during 1966 and 1967.
It covers the period from Hendrix being discovered in a New York club by Keith Richard’s girlfriend Linda Keith and his tie-up with manager Chas Chandler, through to the recording of debut album Are You Experienced.
All is By My Side is being written and directed by John Ridley, who also penned Three Kings and U-Turn.
The project is currently in pre-production in County Wicklow, with principal photography planned there and in Dublin towards the end of May. Shooting is expected to take six weeks.
3000, real name Andre Benjamin, has previously played roles in US drama series The Shield and in Guy Richie’s movie Revolver.
