Jeff Beck Honoured At Montreal Jazz Festival

British guitar experimentalist Jeff Beck has been honored with the inaugural Tribute Award at Montreal Jazz Festival.

At a press conference before his appearance at the festival he talked about his unique guitar playing saying: “It’s a form of musical Tourette’s. It’s involuntary spasm. I think it’s probably a form of insanity, to be quite honest with you.”

The former Yardbirds member played a concert on July 6th in Montreal as part of the festival.

Jeff played with Jimmy Page in The Yardbirds, having replaced Eric Clapton in 1965, before forming his own group with Rod Stewart on vocals. In the 70s Jeff experimented with jazz to great effect and went on to incorporate both electronica and Arabian influences into his contemporary work.

Jeff Beck is the greatest guitarist to ever grace our planet. He masters blues, hard rock, metal, jazz fusion and electronica. Brian May, David Gilmour and Tom Scholz have all declared that Mr. Jeff Beck is the very best. His superlative riffs, myriad tones and whammy bar ingenuity are inimitable.
