Is This The End For The Who?
Who guitarist Pete Townshend could be forced into retirement if he can’t find a successful treatment for his tinnitus.
The band recently put in a half-time performance at the Super Bowl – but Townshend says they’re “finished” unless a new treatment for his ear problems does the trick.
According to Rolling Stone, Neil Young has put Townshend in contact with an ear specialist who recommended an in-ear monitor that may prevent any further damage.
Townshend will give the device a try-out when The Who perform at their only scheduled gig of 2010, a March 30 charity show at London’s Royal Albert Hall for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
“It’s a good test of Pete’s hearing,” said Who frontman Daltrey. “We won’t know until we try.”
Townsend added: “If my hearing is going to be a problem, we’re not delaying shows. We’re finished. I can’t really see any way around the issue.”
