Iggy Advert Gets Canned

A car insurance ad featuring Iggy Pop has been banned – because the policy is not available to musicians.

Iggy’s Swiftcover TV commercial was judged to be misleading by the Advertising Standards Agency.

It followed complaints from a dozen people who said it was wrong to suggest Iggy had taken out a policy because it was not available to entertainers.

In the ad, Iggy claims: “I got it Swiftcovered. I got insurance on my insurance… so do it.”

Swiftcover said Iggy was simply chosen for the advert because of his reputation for living life to the full.

Swiftcover also mentioned that Cronos of Venom had successfully opened a car insurance policy with them (third party, fire and theft) to cover his P-reg Perodua Nippa with 175,000 miles on the clock.

But the Advertising Standards Agency pointed out that most people don’t regard Cronos as a musician.

One of the funniest things I’ve read in ages. I was shocked when I saw those adverts. I was just thinking; “Iggy, you’ve sold out!”

Still, not as cringeworthy as Ringo Starr in those recent insurance ads on the telly.

Ahhaha, whats funny is the last sentence, “people don’t consider Cronos as a musician”.

I bet millions of black metallers would disagree! :D

Just back from holiday and quite literally pissed myself laughing at this story – I was raging when i saw the Igster in this advert but this is a perfect ending – the fact the ASA didnt classify Cronos as a Muso is funny as :) – You need to stick Alice Cooper in the Aviva advert as well Vicky – Its always been the case with musicains and advertising holding hands – How else would Babylon Zoo have got a number one in the 90’s??
