Iggy Pop has been talking exclusively to Classic Rock about his involvement in the new game Lego Rock Band.

The man has had plenty to say about those he feels should join him as plastic figures in the game. and also why got involved:

If you could immortalise any other rocker as a plastic LEGO man, who would it be, and why?

“Bo Diddley, because his music is already a virtual reality, and his name is very video game. I would also say James Brown, but he’s not rock, more super-heavy funk.  Both of these guys should be added to the Mount Rushmore monument, though.”

Do you think we’ll ever get to a time when games take over from the real thing?

“They started showing up in pinball arcades, in the 80s, I think. I remember seeing Pacman first. I think it’s the end of the world, in a way.”

How did you become involved in this project, and how do you feel about it?

“They asked. There’s not much I won’t do, if you asked nicely.”

Have you ever played with the famous bricks (Lego)? Do they stimulate your creativity?

“No, I never played with them, but the colours make me happy.”

If you were to liken yourself to a video games character – who would it be and why?

“Donkey Kong.  Just look at him go!”

Do you think that games like Lego Rock Band can help young people to develop their musical talent and understanding?

“Yes, probably in ways that combine the strengths of the old and new generations. In ways I don’t fully understand and cannot predict.”
