High Voltage Festival: Six Bands Added
Transatlantic, UFO, Venom, The Quireboys, The Union and Dweezil Zappa Plays Zappa will all play at this summer’s Classic Rock High Voltage festival.
The latest bands add to an already stellar line-up that will run across two days and three stages – Main Stage, Prog Stage and Metal Hammer Stage.
The High Voltage Festival is set to take place in London’s Victoria Park on July 24 and 25, with headline appearances from Emerson Lake And Palmer and ZZ Top.
Tickets are available from www.highvoltagefestival.com or 24hr cc ticketline 0871 230 5582.
Here’s the scam on our six new High Voltage additions:
Transatlantic (Prog Stage) – A rare performance from the prog-rock supergroup made up of Roine Stolt (The Flower Kings), Pete Trewavas (Marillion), Neal Morse (ex-Spock’s Beard) and Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater). The band released their latest album The Whirlwind in late 2009 to widespread critical acclaim.
Venom (Metal Stage) – Venom’s seminal 1982 album Black Metal spawned an entire genre. Acknowledged as a major influence by Metallica, Slayer and countless extreme metal bands, Venom are still led by iconic frontman Cronos, who was a guest star on Dave Grohl’s Probot album.
UFO (Main Stage) – One of Britain’s all-time great hard rock bands. Say no more.
The Quireboys (Main Stage) – One of the surprise stars of last year’s Hard Rock Hell, The Quireboys are, in their own words, “purveyors of the finest English good-time rock’n’roll since 1984” – a band in the tradition of The Rolling Stones and The Faces. But then you probably knew that already.
The Union (Main Stage) – The Union are a new band formed by Luke Morley, formerly the guitarist for Thunder, and ex-Winterville vocalist/guitarist Peter Shoulder.
Dweezil Zappa Plays Zappa (Prog Stage) – Dweezil Zappa and band play a greatest-hits set of the music from his father, the maverick rock legend Frank Zappa. The band return to the UK for the first time since a sell-out tour in 2008.
…All of which means that the confirmed High Voltage line-up to date is as follows:
Main stage – Emerson, Lake & Palmer, ZZ Top, Foreigner, Heaven & Hell, Bachman Turner, Joe Bonamassa, Gary Moore, UFO, The Answer, The Quireboys, The Union…
Prog Stage – Transatlantic, Asia, Zappa Plays Zappa, Marillion, Argent, Steve Hackett, Focus, Pendragon, Uriah Heep, Magnum, Martin Turner’s Wishbone Ash, The Reasoning, Touchstone…
Metal Stage – Black Label Society, Down, Venom, Clutch…
More bands will be added soon, so stay tuned to the Classic Rock website.

What days are the bands playing on??????
What a shame the metal stage is situated in the middle of the park – it presumably means I have to go past as I commute between the other two it rather than avoiding it altogether, which would be my preference! Still, not complaining when there is so much to enjoy elsewhere. Really glad to see UFO on the bill. I don’t think any other band epitomises the term “classic rock” more than them. I can’t wait!
YES! ELP, The Answer and Heaven and Hell had already convinced me to go to this along with Sonisphere, but this seals it. I never would have thought I’d get the chance to see Venom, and Zappa Plays Zappa will be unmissable! Just make sure there are no terrible clashes like last year’s Download, that was awfully planned out.
martin turner’s wishbone ash ?? the real WISHBONE ASH is on tour right now, for 40 years straight………..Turner’s band is a very subpar act, how they got this gig is very well known……I hope the crowd doesnt boo them off the stage..
UFO on the main stage?
Old prog rock fan.
It is annoying not knowing the days each band are on. I’m waiting for Yes and Genesis (with Gabriel to play The Lamb) to be added! Seriously, there’s so many bands on that I want to see, that there’s bound to be a clash between stages at some point(s).
Yes I am a dullard – Yes, I agree!
When will we find out who what day each band are playing.
It is ridiculous that you are unable (or unwilling) to specify which day bands are playing. It is inconceivable that the bands have not been booked for specific days therefore why not share this information. is it so we are ‘encouraged’ to buy a weekend ticket or am I being too cynical?!!
yeeeahhh venom!! how the hell did download/knobworth miss em! cant wait for em! hats off for getting ufo and the union too, and MT’s wishbone ash are far better than baldi’s version watch em you wont be dissapointed.
what is Argents line up ???
The Quireboys, The Union & UFO – Excellent!!!
Ashfan – the real Wishbone Ash has not existed since 1991. It is not Turner’s band which is the sub par outfit. Powell’s version sounds like a boogie bar band with Monotone Man vocals. Turner’s band sounds like the Wishbone Ash known and loved by those who bought the records, back in the day. They will be ideal for a Classic Rock festival and I lay money on there being no boos, unless AP is organising coach loads of hecklers as part of his ongoing dirty tricks campaign.
Amazing line-up all round, does anyone know whether this is a one off festival or if they intend to run it in the future??
Bought my tickets today. Heaven & Hell, BLS, Down, ZZ Top, Gary Moore…need I go on?? Gona be awesome. Far better line-up than Download or Sonisphere have got so far.
Well said Argus fan saw MT’s Wishbone Ash just recently in a triple header with Focus and Strawbs. They were superb played the ARGUS set and as you say not in the least booable. Hate it when bands split and there is rancour. Just enjoy the music MTs version is a true rendition and worthy of a spot at HV.
Paul check the bands websites it will give you a good idea of who is playing when. I have worked out 14 of them.
Tony Eyre County Down. have you found the Argent day?
Steve no still searching for that day Rod Argent’s site tends to be a bit out of date and his work with Zombies means the info is mostly on Colin Blunstones site but nothing on either about High Voltage. Not even sure which stage Argent are on main or Prog as there seems to be a bit of confusion on that.
Seems to me from info on web pages is that Saturday is ZZ Top Foreigner Gary Moore and The Answer. Touchstone Pendragon and Transatlantic. Sunday is ELP UFO The Quireboys with Marillion Steve Hackett Wishbone and The Reasoning. The rest are still unknown. Hope this helps but it is only from bands webpages not HV.
turner has no voice, no emotion, and is blatantly subverting the WA that is still in action 40 years after formation, still with founding member Powell who didnt quit the band….Turner should give up the ghost, his voice is shot, the band plays downtuned and sterile, and basically is an insult to play the same argus tunes over and over ad nauseaum…WA is still a force worldwide, with DVDs, CDs, tours, books, etc , not turner who is trying to ride Powell’s success via coattails and subversive tactics…that is well known by all, including the critics and reviewers……his management is helping with the HV festival, so he gets the pass, no matter how horrid he sounds (check out the garbage he posted on youtube)
Steve sorry but my post seems to be having some trouble being moderated from last night. No the Argent day is not on any website yet.
Tony,
Thanks for the update.
diamond head and europe should be on the bill too saw em in bristol wed and they both blew me away!
MT Wishbone Ash – is a grate band. Martin wrote a
solid part of Ash material…. I love his voice…..
Who you like or don´t … is a personal taste….
Looking farward to here MT Wishbone Ash..
I really want to book tickets for this. I can only go on one day though. Why hasnt someone in the know answered many peoples questions on here about what bands are playing what days. Time is getting on and it is very frustrating not being able to book. please please if there is an official orgainizer reading this, give us an answer please!!
I agree , I am only going for one day , wish they would make some announcement.
