Gig Of The Week

Every week the Classic Rock website will be recommending a forthcoming gig for you to check out. Come inside to find out more…

BAND: Pere Ubu

WHERE: The ICA, London

WHEN: Friday, September 25

Always willing to take risks and try something a little weird, surreal rockers Pere Ubu are about to stretch themselves again.

The band, who started in Cleveland in 1975, are to take the concept of theatrical rock into uncharted territory with a show based around the infamous 19th Century play Ubu Roi, from where they got their name in the first place.

“I don’t know what’s going happen,” Ubu mastermind David Thomas told Classic Rock. “Nobody ever does at a Pere Ubu show, least of all the performers.

“To me, the beauty of live shows is the spontaneous aspect. I can’t understand how anyone can be content to play exactly the same thing every time.”

So, those at the ICA will bear witness to a genuine one-off. It’ll be a unique event, because it’s not in the nature of Pere Ubu to do the same thing twice. You have been warned…
