Gig Of The Week: Tigertailz
WHERE: Manchester Moho Live
WHEN: Sunday, May 15
The Welsh glam heroes are currently on a UK tour – and it’s the first time the band have been on a proper tour in two decades.
“The last time we did something like this was for the Bezerk album (1990),” says frontman Kim Hooker. “Since we got back together in 2006 we’ve done the odd show here and there, but nothing as extensive as this. It’s nice to be able to do some venues where we played a long time ago, and also to play in venues we’ve never been to before.”
The band – Hooker, guitarist Jay Pepper, bassist Sarah Firebrand and drummer Robin Guy – will be doing a set that features at least one song from every album they’ve done. And, insists Hooker, they’ll give their all no matter how many people turn up to the shows.
“Obviously, we’d like to sell out everywhere. But even if there are only 10 in the crowd, we’ll give them a great time.”
Of course, late bassist Pepsi Tate (who died in 2007) is never far from their thoughts, and Hooker admits the band did wonder whether they should carry on after he passed away.
“We were in two minds, but since Sarah arrived she’s given us a real shot in the arm. Her enthusiasm has rubbed off on all of us.”
Hooker and Pepper will actually be travelling from gig to gig in a rather unusual fashion.
“We’ll be on motorbikes. This is partly to raise money for the cancer charity set up in Pepsi’s name. It’ll be crazy and we’ll probably look like idiots, but we’re still gonna do it.”
Straight after they finish this tour, the band will be going into the studio, to start recording a new album, their first since 2007’s Thrill Pistol..
“We know we’re a better live band than a studio one, so we wanna record while we’re still buzzing from being on the road.”
Joined by Spit Like This, Tigertailz will also be playing:
Wed. 18: Sheffield Academy II
Thu.19: Newcastle Academy II
Fri. 20: Glasgow Cathouse
