Gig Of The Week: The Answer
WHO: The Answer
WHERE: Aberdeen Tunnels
WHEN: Saturday, October 22
The Irish heroes are currently on the road promoting hew album Revival. And, says vocalist Cormac Neeson, they’re doing a lot of songs from this in their live set.
“At the moment we’re playing six or seven new songs in the set and they’re sounding fantastic! We don’t want to play the entire album just yet as we want to save some surprises for the tour in the new year.”
Of course, the band – also featuring guitarist Paul Mahon, bassist Micky Waters and drummer James Heatley – are also drawing on their previous two albums, and Neeson admits that now having three records from which to pull together their set causes problems.
“It’s really hard to drop a time tested crowd favourite in place of something new, yeah. But that’s the nature of the game, and part of moving your music forward. Once you take that initial plunge and realise the crowd are into the new stuff it’s like the new set list was always meant to be. Having too many songs is a very good problem to have.”
One way of dealing with this is to vary the set, and that’s what The Answer are doing.
“Most nights are different. We tend to pay attention to Facebook requests and calls on the night, so there’s generally enough variety to keep us on our toes. We also have a lot of supporters that travel to a number of shows so we like to shake it up for them.”
Apart from Aberdeen, the band also have the following shows lined up for October:
Mon.17: Nottingham Rescue Rooms
Wed. 19: Birmingham Academy
Thu. 20: York Duchess
Fri. 21: Glasgow King Tut’s (sold out)

Tue. 25: Norwich Waterfront
