Gig Of The Week: Sonisphere Festival
WHO: Sonisphere Festival
WHERE: Knebworth Park
WHEN: Friday, July 8 – Sunday, July 20
This is the third year that the multi-national festival has happened – and it gets bigger every year.
There’s no question that the big draw this time around has to be the presence of the Big Four of thrash on the Apollo Stage on the first day. That’s Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax on the same bill in the UK… for the first time ever!
Diamond Head are also playing on that day as well – expect to glimpse Metalli-drummer (and longtime DH admirer) Lars Ulrich at the side of the stage during their set.
Other attractions on the first day include:
Bohemia Stage
Killing Joke
Hayseed Dixie
Firewind
Red Bull Bedroom Jam Stage
Rolo Tomassi
Protest The Hero
Jagermeister Stage
The Defiled
Slam Cartel
On the second day, the featured acts include:
Apollo Stage
Biffy Clyro
Weezer
Bad Religion
Cavalera Conspiracy
Saturn Stage
The Mars Volta
Richard Cheese And Lounge Against The Machine
Bohemia Stage
Sisters Of Mercy
Paradise Lost
Ginger Wildheart
Red Bull Bedroom Jam Stage
Watain
TesseracT
Revoker
Jagermeister Stage
Black Spiders
Saint Jude
Rival Sons
The Crave
Virginmarys

Jettblack
Sons Of Icarus
Finally, on the closing day, watch out for:
Apollo Stage
Slipknot
Motorhead
Mastodon
Arch Enemy
Volbeat
Saturn Stage
Bill Bailey
Opeth
Airbourne
In Flames
Bohemia Stage
The Answer
InMe
Alestorm
Kylesa

There’s also a comedy stage on all three days. Plus rock karaoke, metal bingo, a silent disco and a pub rock quiz. And promoters guarantee that there will be no overlap between the artists on the Apollo and Saturn stages.
