Gig Of The Week: Rival Sons
WHO: Rival Sons
WHERE: Wolverhampton Civic Bar
WHEN: Monday, November 7
It’s been a great year for Rival Sons, as guitarist Scott Holiday attests.
“We’ve been so blessed and very lucky, especially the way that fans in the UK have taken t the band. So thanks for a great 2011.”
The band – also featuring vocalist Jay Buchanan, bassist Robin Everhart and drummer Mike Miley – have just finished up supporting Evanescence on a sold-out US tour. And while the combination of these two bands might appear odd at first, things went extremely well for the Rivals.
“The Evanescence fans really took to us, and we won a lot of people over. It helped that the band themselves like what we do, and on the last night of the tour Amy Lee came out onstage to tell everyone how much she was into our music. That was so cool. Now we’re back over here – and it seems like we only left yesterday!”
The band will be playing an hour-long set on this UK tour, and might even throw in a surprise or two.
“What we all try to do is shock the other members by starting up a cover version they don’t expect. That can be great fun, as you never know what’s gonna happen. But the basis of the set will be the one we did when we headlined the Metal Hammer Stage at the High Voltage Festival in July.”
The other remaining date in this November tour is:
Thu. 10: London Islington O2 Academy (with Heavens Basement)
