Gig Of The Week: Moody Blues
WHO: Moody Blues
WHERE: Ipswich Regent Theatre
WHEN: Sunday, September 19
The veteran Brits are back on the road, where they believe they belong.
“I really do feel this is where we come into our own,” says guitarist/vocalist Justin Hayward. “Over the years, we’ve become a very good live band. It’s what we’re all about.”
Hayward, bassist/vocalist John Lodge and drummer Graeme edge are the core of the Moodies, as they’ve been since the late 1960s. Joining them are flautist Norda Mullen (who’s been with them for seven years), keyboard player Alan Hewit (who joined in the early 90s), violinist/keyboard player Julia Ragins (who was brought in eight years ago) and second drummer Gordon Marshall (with a 20-year history in the band).
As for the set fans can expect to see, with their vast back catalogue this is always a headache for the band.
“The choice is so big that we usually end up disappointing someone,” admits Lodge. “But normally we try and include something for everyone. And we do tend to pick songs that go across our entire career.”
After Ipswich, the band head to:
Sept. 20: Oxford New Theatre
Sept. 22: Bristol Hippodrome
Sept. 23: Bournemouth BIC
Sept. 25: London O2 Arena
