Gig Of The Week: King Mob
WHO: King Mob
WHERE: London 229 Club
WHEN: Thursday, November 17
The first major show for a band with a vast pedigree. The line-up says it all, featuring some of the most celebrated talents in rock: Snips (vocals), Chris Spedding (guitar|), Glen Matlock (bass) and Martin Chambers (drums). Between them they’ve more than 150 years’ experience. Add in comparatively unknown guitarist Sixteen, and you have a band with flair, finesse and edge.
Says Snips: “I used to DJ in a club called The Axe in Hackney, North London. I’d spin The Doors, followed by Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers, then Otis Redding and Ike & Tina Turner. And then I thought, ‘Instead of playing these records to them, why I don’t play the music?’. So, I decided to start a new band.”
Live, the band will not only play songs from their just released debut album, Force 9, but also from a planned follow-up.
“If you wanna know where we are coming from, then you can trace it all the way back to Bo Diddley. You will recognize what we are doing, and I hope people will pick up on the atmosphere and the groove. I think the set will just be originals, with no covers, and we might even play a couple of songs from our planned second album.”
