Gig Of The Week: Girlschool
WHERE: Leamington Assembly
WHEN: Friday, March 2
Last year, Girlschool re-recorded their classic 1981 album Hit And Run, under the title of Hit And Run Revisited. Now the celebrated band are hitting the road, playing a set that will include a decent percentage of songs from that album.
“We’ve started playing Watch Your Step and The Hunter, and of course we always do Yeah Right, Future Flash and C’mon Let’s Go,” says bassist/vocalist Enid Williams. “We’ve also been playing Kick It Down and sometimes Tush and Tonight. I’d love to do Following The Crowd and Back To Start but unless we get lots of requests we tend to play the faster ones on stage!”
After playing live for over 30 years, the band know what works and what doesn’t. And they tend to stick to the tried and trusted songs.
“We’ll probably change one or two each night, but mostly we play the favourites.”
The foursome – the line-up is completed by vocalist/guitarist Kim McAuliffe, guitarist Jackie Chambers and drummer Denise Dufort – are in for a busy 2012, as Enid explains:
“We have several big festivals, and then we’ll be getting a DVD together. We get a lot of respect from other bands and rock fans at the moment, which is nice. Tjings do seem to have changed in our favour in that respect.”
After Leamington, the rest of the dates on this tour are:
Sat. 3: York Fibbers
Fri. 9: Manchester Academy 3
Sat. 10: London Relentless Garage
Fri. 23: Crumlin Patriot
