Gig Of The Week: Dio

BAND: Dio

WHERE: Glasgow O2 Academy

WHEN:  Saturday, November 21

The iconic singer takes a break from touring with Heaven & Hell to resurrect his own band, and promises to deliver a thrilling set.

“What I want to do on this tour is concentrate on the Dio back catalogue. There are a lot of people out there who are fans of Dio, and really want to hear the music I’ve recorded with this band over the years. So, I’ll be bringing back a few old favourites.”

There’s also going to be one new number, Electra, which is the first taste we’ll have from the band’s new album.

“I just wanted to give everyone an idea of what they can expect. This will be on the next record, which is a continuation of the Magica story.”

And the great frontman won’t be doing any Black Sabbath/Heaven & Hell songs.

“I’ve been doing that for a while now with Heaven & Hell, so why would I need to do this with Dio? But will still be putting one or two Rainbow numbers into the set.”

The band on this tour is Doug Aldrich (guitar), Rudy Sarzo (bass), Simon Wright (drums) and Scott Warren (keyboards).

Apart from Glasgow, which is the opening night of the tour, the rest of the dates are Sheffield O2 Academy November 22, London Kentish Town Forum 24, Nottingham Rock City 25, Manchester O2 Academy 27, Lincoln Engine Shed 28, Bristol O2 Academy 30.
