Gig Of The Week: Colin Blunstone
WHO: Colin Blunstone
WHERE: Liverpool Stanley Theatre
WHEN: Sunday, February 13
The Zombies frontman is currently on a solo tour, and he’s enjoying life on the road.
“Obviously, these days I can’t party like I used to in my younger days, but this is the third solo tour I’ve done and I am having a great time. But it is exhausting doing all the travelling, and I have to remember that each night there’s a new audience, for whom this is a one-off show, so I have to make sure I’m at my best on every date.”
While playing only a couple of Zombies songs, Blunstone still has a vast array of songs from which to choose his set.
“By the time, I’ve got all the obvious songs in, and also added in a couple of personal favourites, the set’s almost together anyway. I also take on board what people say, and might even seek opinions. What I do does span my entire career to date.”
This is going to be a very busy year for the singer, as The Zombies are celebrating their 50th anniversary.
“It’s quite extraordinary. When we started out, like most bands we thought it would all last two or three years, and then we’d get on with our lives. We will be touring later in the year, and UK shows are to be included. It amazes me that we are attracting younger fans as well as the older ones.”
Not only will there be a new Zombies studio album later in the year, but Blunstone is also working on songs for a new solo record, which he aims to have out early in 2012. There’s no let up in the 65-year-old’s schedule.
