Gig Of The Week: Caravan
WHERE: London Shepherd’s Bush Empire
WHEN: Saturday, October 8
Following their triumphant performance on the Prog Stage at the High Voltage Festival, Caravan are back in London to play their own show.
The band will base the set around the songs they did at their ITV Legends performance last year, as guitarist/vocalist Pye Hastings explains:
“We are doing the same set as we did at the Legends show, plus additions. This takes in numbers from the second album (1970’s If I Could Do It All Over Again I’d Do It All Over You) through to the last one (2003’s The Unauthorised Breakfast Item), plus a couple of new numbers. We plan to have two days of rehearsals this week, where I will try out various options.”
The current line-up of Hastings, multi-instrumentalist Geoffrey Richardson, keyboard player Jan Schelhaas, bassist Jim Leverton and drummer Mark Walker also have the following shows lined up for October:
Fri. 7: Leamington Spa Assembly (with Solstice)
Sun. 9: Lydney Summer’s End Festival (with Magenta)
Thu. 13: Milton Keynes Stables
Fri. 14: Holmfirth Picturedrome (with Curved Air)
Sat. 15: Edinburgh Picture House (with Mean Street Blues)
Wed. 19: Canterbury Festival 2011
Hastings is looking forward to 2012 being a very busy year for the band.
“Hopefully, we’ll play lots of festivals. We are all up for as much gigging as we can get. But I do live in the Highlands, and there are hazards getting out when the snow sets in. So, after this current batch, there will probably be few gigs till March next year when the weather turns. Still that gives me more time to finalise the 10 or so new songs I am working on!”
Also on the bill in London are fellow prog veterans Curved Air.
