Gig Of The Week
Every week the Classic Rock website recommends a forthcoming gig for you to check out. Come inside to find out more…
BAND: Europe
WHERE: Relentless Garage, London
WHEN: Sunday, November 1
Europe vocalist Joey Tempest can’t wait to kick off the week of special Classic Rock awards shows.
“How amazing is this? We get to play in one of our favourite cities in the world. Not only that, but we’re playing in a small club, and that’s bound to mean an incredible atmosphere. All of us are so psyched up about being able to do this show.”
The celebrated Swedes will almost certainly do a unique set that will not only include several tracks from acclaimed current album Last Look At Eden, but perhaps one or two surprises.
“We’re discussing it all right now,” says the frontman. “But we’re not giving our set list away in advance – where would the surprise be if we did that?”
For Europe, this is very much a one-off show sandwiched between their run of Summer festival dates, and the Last Look At Eden tour early next year.
“We see it as a bridge between the two tours. And we’ll use the opportunity to try out a few ideas from Last Look At Eden. We’re so pleased with the reaction the album’s been getting, especially in the UK. People who totally ignored us before are now falling over themselves to praise the record. It’s so satisfying, because we tried very hard to strike a balance between who Europe are, and going for a modern sound. Our templates were the first, self-titled Audioslave album and the current Black Stone Cherry record [Folklore & Superstition], not in terms of style, but the way they sound.”
Live, though, it’s all about getting right in people’s faces – at least at The Garage.
“Let’s put it this way, everyone’ll know they’ve been part of an event – especially us!”
