Gig Of The Week

Every week the Classic Rock website recommends a forthcoming gig for you to check out. Come inside to find out more…

BANDS: Black Stone Cherry, Duff McKagan’s Loaded, The Parlor Mob

WHERE: Portsmouth Pyramids Centre

WHEN: Wednesday, October 14

Kentucky’s Black Stone Cherry enjoy playing in Europe. Says frontman Chris Robertson:

“This is our third visit in 2009. Altogether we’ve spent three months over here, which is quite a lot. And things are getting bigger for us every time we come through.”

The band’s popularity is growing so fast that many of the venues they’re headlining have had to be upgraded, including this one.

“I reckon we are getting the rewards for paying a lot of attention to Britain and Europe,” says Robertson. “But it amazes me how quickly things have grown.”

Black Stone Cherry have been on road almost constantly since May 2008, but they’re showing no signs of being jaded. In fact, the vocalist insists they’re out to do something special this time around for the fans.

“We’re gonna do some songs we’ve not done for ages, and will include a few tracks from the bonus CD which was part of the deluxe re-issue of the Folklore & Superstition album. We’ve also worked up a few covers; I won’t spoil the surprise by telling everyone in advance. But I always love going to shows and hearing a cover or two. We might do gigs with one, two or even three of these – or perhaps none at all!”

Joining Black Stone Cherry are Duff McKagan’s Loaded and The Parlor Mob. Robertson believes this is a value-for-money bill.

“Having Duff with us is so bad-ass. This is a guy from Velvet Revolver and Guns N’ Roses! And we toured for two months in America with The Parlor Mob. They are a great live band.”

The other dates on this tour are: London Hammersmith Apollo October 15, Leeds Academy 16, Glasgow Barrowland 17 (this is sold out), Newcastle Academy 19, Manchester Apollo 20, Bristol Academy 21, Norwich UEA 23, Oxford Academy 24.

If you do not know who Black Stone Cherry is, you better be checking them out. I got to see them in concert with Collective Soul in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA last month and they rocked the house down!!! These guys had the collective Soul fans taking notice and shaking their heads in approval, wondering where these guys came from. They are loud and rock hard!!!

Saw them saturday night at Brum..they were on form and it’s twice i have seen them this year, By far they surprised fans. No Spoilers but they done a cover of one of my fave blues track..which was outstanding. And if your lucky they will come out afterwards and do a signing.

I saw them on Saturday in Brum too; best band (bar AC/DC) I have seen in years; The guy can sing like the best; Steven Tyler, Paul Rodgers, real classic voice; And they had more energy than I have seen in a band for years.

Outstanding………they could well become one of the biggest rock bands in the world!
