Geoff Workman: R.I.P.
Geoff Workman, who collaborated as a producer and engineer with some of the greatest names in rock, has died.
Not much is known about the circumstances of Workman’s demise.
However, session guitarist Michael Riesenbeck posted the following on Facebook:
“Guys, we lost Geoff Thursday morning. He was at home, in his bed and it was peaceful. We will be making funeral arrangements early this coming week. It has been rough. Please pass this on to anyone who knew him or loved him.”
Workman’s career stretched back to 1970, when he was the tape op on the King Crimson album Lizard.
Subsequently, he worked with Queen, Journey, Foreigner, Mötley Crüe, The Cars, Twisted Sister and Toto.
Workman engineered the Crüe’s Shout At The Devil album. That’s his voice you can hear on the intro track, From The Beginning.

What a great man Geoff was, He was the man responsible for the great sounds we got on the “Salty Dog” album. He had great people skills as well, he new how to push you and when to crack a joke to make things relax a bit.
Rock-n-Roll has lost a great one.
I am stunned and saddened by this news.
I worked a fair bit with Geoff back in the early 70’s at Wessex Studios in London, before I started work with Status Quo. In fact, he engineered some recordings I did with Geordie- the band that featured Brian (AC/DC) Johnston.
A great soundman and a vicious, typically English sense of humour.
A huge loss R.I.P. mate!
I am stunned – amazingly I had a dream a few weeks ago which made me think something had happened. I knew him for about 10 years both here and in the US. I just hope he finds some peace now
I worked with Geoff on two projects. Memphis and Atlanta recordings of DNC during late 80’s early 90’s. I had so much fun with Geoff. He certainly had a life altering personality. I have nothing but the fondest memories of this amazing and gifted man. I’ll see you in the afterlife my friend.
