Gary Cherone Gives New Van Halen Album The Thumbs-Up
Sammy Hagar might think Chickenfoot are better than Van Halen, but another former VH frontman – Gary Cherone – holds a different view.
Cherone, who sang on 1998’s Van Halen III, told the Boston Phoenix:
“This record [Van Halen's new album A Different Kind Of Truth], for me, it’s the best thing since Fair Warning. [First single] Tattoo is the only misstep.”
The Extreme/Hurtsmile frontman continued:
“The starting point was the old demos, but to me, a riff’s a riff. Eddie’s added new things to it – this stuff is on fire. Of course you miss [bassist Michael Anthony]; he was one of the four food groups. But Wolfie’s no slouch. Alex is a machine, and Eddie is playing better than he’s ever played.
“I love the record. It’s kind of inspiring, it’s like the king just took back his crown.”
Meanwhile, Valerie Bertinelli, Eddie Van Halen’s ex-wife, has also addressed the Anthony vs. Wolfie situation.
She told UltimateClassicRock.com:
“I loved Mike too, I thought he was a really nice guy, still do. But the only way this tour is happening is because Eddie gets to play with his son Wolfie. Otherwise, this tour wouldn’t be going on, it really wouldn’t.
“This brings joy to Ed, and that’s what he wants to do now, just have fun playing. As great as Mike is, this wouldn’t be happening if Mike was still in the band.”
…Finally, and possibly most importantly, Eddie has been outed as the owner of a ‘girly dog’. Check out the guitarist’s embarrassing pooch here.
