Peter Gabriel Records Orchestral Covers Album
Peter Gabriel is releasing a covers album on February 15. What’s he covered? Come in and we’ll tell you.
The album’s called Scratch My Back, and features the following songs:
Heroes (David Bowie)
The Boy In The Bubble (Paul Simon)
Mirrorball (Elbow)
Flume (Bon Iver)
Listening Wind (Talking Heads)
The Power Of The Heart (Lou Reed)
My Body Is A Cage (Arcade Fire)
The Book Of Love (The Magnetic Fields)
I Think It’s Going To Rain Today (Randy Newman)
Apres Moi (Regina Spektor)
Philadelphia (Neil Young)
Street Spirit (Fade Out) (Radiohead)
The album was produced by Bob Ezrin and mixed by Tchad Blake. It’s been recorded using only an orchestra and vocals.
Gabriel takes what he is calling The New Blood Tour on the road next Spring, with a London show at the O2 Arena on March 27. This will showcase the album, with only an orchestra backing the man.
As is usual these days, there are VIP packages available for the O2. Want access to the soundcheck, a tour T-shirt, an event laminate and a copy of the album? Yours for £150, if you feel the need to sit in the first five rows, or £100 for rows six to 10.

I’m no expert but that doesn’t sound much as far as these VIP Packages go. Wasn’t it £300 for Bad Company? Not that I will be tempted because I think the whole VIP thing stinks anyway!
I’d rather see P.G and Genesis doing The Lamb at the O2, Or even Manchester cos it’s nearer!
A covers album combined with and orchestral album, take the two types of releases that officially announce “I HAVE NO NEW IDEAS” and slamming them together, woulda thought Gabriel was above such tripe.
