‘Frampton Album Cover Is The Greatest’ Shock Claim
Good news for Peter Frampton at last. His 1976 release Frampton Comes Alive! was recently named the No.1 classic album which accidentally ruined rock music forever. But now, in amazing turn of fortune, Frampton Comes Alive! has been cited as the best album cover of all time.
Alright, so it’s only the opinion of one person: a certain Owen Pallett, who, we understand, is a gay Canadian singer-songwriter.
Nevertheless, we reckon Pallett has a point.
Today’s Metro newspaper contains a piece called ‘Owen Pallett’s Favourite Album Artwork’ in which he says:
‘Without a doubt, it’s Frampton Comes Alive! by Peter Frampton.
‘This album cover haunts every record store you walk into. The perfect cheekbones, the halo of curls, the menace of the spotlights behind him, the eyes dreamy and slightly closed.
‘I don’t know anything about the music on this album – I’ve never listened to it. The most I can claim is that there’s a song called Baby, I Love Your Way on it.
‘But I know it’s popular, it’s one of the most successful records of all time.
‘There’s no question as to why. The look on Peter’s face is exactly how I want to feel when listening to an album: surprised, excited, captured in soft focus, bathed in light.’
Time for Pallett to take cold shower, we reckon.
