Former Crimson Glory frontman Midnight passed away earlier today from “total kidney and liver failure”. He was 47 years old.

Blabbermouth.net is reporting:

According to Jon Oliva’s Pain guitarist Matt LaPorte, who played on some of Midnight’s recent solo recordings, the singer (real name: John Patrick Jr. McDonald) passed away at 3:45 a.m EST on Wednesday, July 8 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida.

“I will miss my partner Midnight — the greatest voice and friend I’ve ever known,” LaPorte told Blabbermouth.net. “In spite of his demons, [Midnight] was a beautiful soul who constantly changed the lives of those he met and came into contact with.”

Midnight sang on Crimson Glory’s first three albums — Crimson Glory (1986), Transcendence (1988) and Strange and Beautiful (1991) — before going into self-imposed exile for almost a decade.

Really loved their !st 2 well 3 albums actually although and 2 were real metal!

What a band!
Great image…..I have LONELY on 12″..always a very special song to me.

Would of liked to have seen them live in the UK but was too young for gigs at the time.

What a sad time for Midnights family and friends.

RIP mate. I liked their first 3 albums too – remember the fuss Kerrap made about them at the time?

A sad day for heavy metal. “Crimson Glory” and “Transcendence” are classics. I always hoped that Crimson Glory would do a reunion one day.

And I just read that Metal Church are calling it quits. That also sucks.

i was a die hard fan of crimson glory and midnight.
i was blessed to become freinds with him in his last days, and i got to play keyboards on a couple of tracks on his forthcoming and final record. the record truly sounds amazing!.
it was incredible recording with him and his band.
i cherished getting to spend time with him one on one.
i am deeply saddened, but grateful at the same time for my rare moment with him. it was life changing.
