Faces fury was mistake says Jones
Faces drummer Kenney Jones has calmed tempers between Rod Stewart and Ian McLagan after the keyboardist lashed out over reunion plans.
McLagan was furious after singer Stewart discussed the possibility of the long-awaited gathering taking place next year.
He said in December: “We’ve done the Faces and he didn’t turn up.” And he added that he was more interested in celebrating the Small Faces’ 50th anniversary in 2015, saying: “We would we fuck around the with the Faces when we’ve got bigger fish to fry?”
Now Jones has explained it was all a misunderstanding – because McLagan didn’t know that he, Stewart and guitarist Ron Wood had just opened discussions about getting back together.
The drummer tells Billboard: “We’ve been talking. Woody’s management and myself were talking to Rod’s management.
“Mac didn’t realise because it was in its early stages. But he understand fully now. Rod probably presumed everyone knew we were doing it. There was nothing intentional.”
Jones believes the reunion is back on track to become a reality, saying: “It would be lovely to do. We’ve been talking about it long enough. The Faces never finished on a good note so it would be nice to finish on a good note, and that would be that.
“Rod has discovered himself again – he’s going back to his roots, a bit more rock’n'roll, so this is a good time for it.”
Meanwhile, plans are afoot to mark the Small Faces’ milestone in the same year, with Jones working on a script for an animated movie based on their concept album Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake.
