Eddie Van Halen Sues Nike Over Tennis Shoe Design

Guitarist Eddie Van Halen has filed a lawsuit against Nike, alleging the company used the trademarked striped design from his guitar on their new line of ‘Dunk Lows’ tennis shoes.

According to Los Angeles’ KTLA TV, Van Halen received a 2001 copyright for his ‘Frankenstein’ guitar’s design (see pic at bottom of story).

Van Halen states that Nike is doing ‘irreparable harm and damage’ to his signature design and is suing for general and punitive damages, all profits arising from the sales of ‘Dunk Lows’ and a permanent injunction halting production of the Nike shoes.

Court papers allege that Nike infringed on Eddie’s copyright by using his design on sneakers without ‘consent, approval or licence’.

Eddie Van Halen released his own line of sneakers featuring the Frankenstein design earlier this year (see photo, top left).

I thought Gene Simmons owned the copyright to everything in the USA.

Fair enough! That’s a dead rip off!

If Eddie wins perhaps he could share out the damages with the dollar a day workers in Indonesia who make the bloody things!

Unfortunatly, this is showbusiness were talking about. And it is all cutthroat here. Record labels ripp artists off. Management companies ripp you off and squeeze the last drop of blood from artist’s bodies. So this is just business as usual. And if you do win the suit against these mega-corporations, you get black listed and are “frozen” artistically and get your “dirty laundry” exposed. Just ask George Michael or Michael Jackson. So EVH has a right to sue, if he has an artistic right to this design.

As soon as you slip in to one of these shoes, you know your swagga just increased ten fold!!!! You can rock these on the court, the feild, and the track,or you can rock them with a clean white tee and some jeans. Overall these Nike shoes can be used for any occasion!! A must buy!!!!
