Dream Theater announce self-titled album
Dream Theater’s 12th studio album will be self-titled and it’s due for release on September 23, the band have confirmed. View a preview trailer below.
And guitarist John Petrucci believes there’s never been a better expression of their musical diversity.
He says: “I see every new album as an opportunity to start over – to either improve upon a direction that’s been evolving over time, or to completely break new ground.
“This is the first self-titled album of our career, and there’s nothing I can think of that makes a statement of musical and creative identity stronger than that. We’ve fully explored all the elements that make us unique, from the epic and intense to the atmospheric and cinematic.”
Dream Theater will be the prog metal outfit’s second album with drummer Mike Mangini, who replaced Mike Portnoy after he quit in 2010. A Dramatic Turn Of Events, released the following year, was their highest-charting record to date – but it was written before Mangini joined, meaning this is the first outing to feature him in a writing role.
The band launch a DVD entitled Live At Luna Park in November. Singer James LaBrie’s latest solo album, Impermanent Resonance, will hit shelves on July 29.
