Download Classic Rock’s US-Only CD For Free
US readers of Classic Rock don’t get Cheap Trick’s The Latest free with the new issue – but what they do get is an exclusive album titled We’re An American Band. If you think you’re missing out, you can download We’re An American Band in its entirety for free here. Come inside for the details.
We’re An American Band is compiled by Classic Rock‘s own Sleazegrinder and features 18 (count ‘em!) of the hottest new American rock combos.
First, here’s a few biographies for you to check out. You can find download links for your free tracks at the end.
Lions in the Street – Gold Pour Down
Lions are from Vancouver, which is technically still America. North America. Some call ‘em the Canadian Rolling Stones, thanks to their easy drawl and predilection for bad trouble. They were on a major label once, but they got over it. www.lionsinthestreet.com
Infernal Overdrive – I-95
New Jersey’s Infernal Overdrive is fronted by the most dangerous man in rock n’ roll, Harlem Greenwood. How dangerous is he? We’re probably going to get our fingers broken just for writing this. PS: The song’s about a highway, but then again, aren’t they all? www.myspace.com/infernaloverdrive
Menace and the Hellfire – Outlaw
Menace is the bearded, tattooed frontman with the gravely voice and the thousand-yard stare. The Hellfire is his band. Everything about them –including their neighborhood in Jersey City – is terrifying. Lots of bands write songs called “Outlaw”. Rarely are they this autobiographical. www.myspace.com/menaceandthehellfire
The Compulsions – Big Fat Sexy Mama
From New York City, the Compulsions play loud, sweaty, roof-rattling rock with all the swagger you’d expect from the kind of people who would write a song like this. The Compulsions like their rock n’ roll, like they like their women – big and sexy. www.thecompulsionsnyc.com/home.htm
Jacknife Beat – Almost Anything for You
Frontman Joe Mazzari’s pre-Jacknife days involved first-wave punk bands in the late 70’s, and a memorable stint as a member of Johnny Thunders’backing band in the 1980’s. With a pedigree like that, rest assured Jacknife Beat can handle just about anything. www.myspace.com/joemazzariband
She Rides – Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride
She Rides may be he most exciting thing that’s ever happened to Providence, Rhode Island. Perhaps too exciting, which is why they’re currently planning an “epic” tour of every basement and backyard in America that will have them. Evil lives! www.myspace.com/sheridesmusic
Fire Faithful – Welcome Mat
From Richmond, Virginia – ground zero for east coast doom rock – Fire Faithful is band full of bearded dope-wizards who play skull-cracking riff n’ roll that sounds (and smells) like a very scary 1975. Formerly known as Southern Vein, these good ol’ boys like it loud, fuzzy, and stoned. www.myspace.com/firefaithful
Cocaine Wolves – Live Right, Live Tight
Many bands have probably pondered naming themselves Cocaine Wolves, but it takes a special breed of rock n’ roll lunatic to actually do it. Being from Muncie, Indiana, probably has something do with it. As you might suspect, they sound like Judas Priest and Thin Lizzy fighting over cocaine. Like wolves. www.myspace.com/thecocainewolves
Black Horse – I Am My Own Worst Enemy
This female-fronted power-trio from Brooklyn New York plays what they like to call “Minimalist Punk Blues”. If you can imagine Big Black and the Black Keys riding together triumphantly on horseback – naked – then you may be adventurous enough for this. www.myspace.com/blackhorse
Longtime Darlings – Baby Doll
They dig Otis Redding and Thin Lizzy in equal measure, they’re from Pittsburgh, and there’s a good chance they’re your favorite new band. The Longtime Darlings require no hyphens – they play rock, pure and simple. And they do it extremely well. www.myspace.com/thelongtimedarlings
Greenhaven – In Memory of Bull Angus
Fact: Uncle Dave – he’s in the band – has been arrested more times than Grand Funk main-man Mark Farner, whom he looks up to, both musically and spiritually. Another fact: unlike most so-called “Desert Rock” bands, Tempe’s own Greenhaven actually live in the goddamn desert. www.nonemoregreen.com
Dirty Stayouts – Live It Up
A couple of the dudes in New Jersey’s Dirty Stayouts used to be roadies. The problem with tours is, well, they eventually end. So the Stayouts became a band, and now the road goes on forever. If you like ‘em loose and dirty, you’ve come to the right place. www.myspace.com/thedirtystayoutsnj
Soul City Pushers – Six Bullets
From Hemet, California – which is sort of like Los Angeles, without all the money, movie stars, maniacs and emo bands – Soul City Pushers play no-nonsense, full-contact rock n’roll with all knobs turned firmly to “run for cover”. www.myspace.com/soulcitypushers
Bad Love Sessions – Cosmic Transmissions
They’re from Seattle, their logo involves a naked, musclebound Jesus and a flaming guitar, their singer’s name is Crawlin’ Snake, and their influences include James Brown, acid rock, and weekend-long house parties. I think that pretty much explains everything. www.myspace.com/badlovesessions
The Humanoids – Road Soda
The Humanoids are from Boston. They once did a regional tour where they only played ice cream parlors. By the end, they could no longer fit into their leather pants, so they went back to bars. Also, they used to dress up like monsters. Now they just act monstrous. www.myspace.com/theHumanoids
Will Callers – Keep Everything Close
From Fort Worth, Texas, The Will Callers play warm, jangly roots-rock as authentic as a pair of dusty old cowboy boots or a fresh rattlesnake bite. Friends since high school, this band-of-brothers are doing things the old-fashioned way: writing great songs.
www.myspace.com/thewillcallers
Facedown Presley – Songs for the Devil
From Pittsburgh, PA – home of flesh-eating zombies and rust – Facedown Presley are local legends. Cops, parole officers, the guy who holds the keys at the asylum, they all know ‘em. They play punk rock n’ roll, and they drink. Satan loves them. www.myspace.com/facedownpresle
